5470 days ago Safety Bay (again). Didn't have alot of time so figured I'd go for a decent hour. Plugged in the IS101 and CR 7.7 with an FO 34 weedy. Wind was a bit up and down and probably only 17-20kts at best. Worked up to the top of the sandbar then off into Warnbro Sound. Wanted to push further south and then onto Penguin Island but the fin just wouldn't give me enough push on this board and was spinning out when pushed too hard. Settled instead on a run from the south end (with no kites) end of the sandbar then towards the house with the fancy dome on Warnbro beach. The set up seemed to be working nicely and the first half hour flew by. Would have been nice to have a little more wind but it just was quite there. Got to the hour and then had another 6 nm's to go for a distance PB and aimed for that.
Was going well until almost decapitated by a kiter. Saw this guy up wind with his kite bearing down on me doing a mad see saw thing and my spidey senses detected that something was about to go horribly wrong - did the only thing I could do, which was a U Boot crash dive. Surfaced to see a tight nylon kite line stretched no more than 2 inches away from my face, all over my kit. I exchanged a few pleasantries with the mediterranean gentleman in question -I was unable to quite place his accent despite his frantic "excuse me" "excuse me". Friggin excuse me alright !!. I then watched him get dragged onto the beach with his kite blown over the fence and into the park. I hope that put him off the water for a while until he learns how to steer properly .
Lovely day out. 3 more days of wind and holidays to come, bring it on !
