5440 days ago A nice Easterly 20-25 knots. Went down in the early arvo fora go at high tide NM's with Shelby. Some big rolling waves about 1/4 in which were very scary overpowered on the 5.7m and very broad at 33 knots. Then in to short chop which was ok. Next was a big bullet gust and I unhooked because I didn't know if I could hold it. Just as well because a second later I bounced and started to spin out. Bailed out and lost my bootie. Bugger!
Went back for another run. I managed to survive through the big waves and really got going in the shallows but shat myself that it was too shallow so I pulled up only to find it was above my knees. Jumped on and kept going at over 30 kts but damage was done. Feeling too overpowered to continue with the 5.7m so went back and called it for a couple of hours to wait for the tide to drop.
Back later with 5m and CA40 with 20cmKA assy. for some speed runs. It was a bit marginal to start with but then I got a few 40 knots peaks. I was just about to give it away and try for some alphas when I thought I might have one last run. Just as well because this one was the best of the day for me at 42.1 on the display. I followed it up with a 41.5 peak and a couple of other mid 40 peaks and then went for the CA50 to try some alphas. The wind and water were a bit strange. Wind swinging to different angles and a small swell running into the Alpha area just where I wanted to Gybe. I did a few on the reverse way to usual and then a few the normal way. I was just warming up to it when I hit the waves just as I carved into one and spun out big time. I sort of catapulted over the sail as it hit the water and when I came up I have a hook tear at the 2nd batten. To save it getting worse I quit then. :-) I turned into that last one at a good 32+ knots so it could have been a good'un. Oh well......... Reasonably happy with 26.228 and another just over 26.
Wind didn't get consistently stronger while I was out but a few of the bullet gusts seemed to be a bit stronger. Still 20-25 most of the time.
Shelby and Foxy were still pounding the speed strip when I left.
