Easterly, Sandy point, SX S, 5.4 Ram

Tried sailing inbetween swimming and spinning out...

Travelled to Area 51.  This place has potentional.  Need to sail in differing wind directions and tides but much longer runs than Inverloch but not quite as flat but much flatter than the Bay

Started with the 144 ltr Mistral Explosion and 50cm fin and 7.5 tushy Did one long sail across to the other side of the bay exploring the water depth.  Wind was blowing from the NE around 12 - 15 kts

Changed to the 105 ltr SX medium with MFC 36cm fin and 5.5 tushy when the wind swung ENE 20 - 25 kts.  Should have come in and changed down fin size but was stuffed.  Still working on riding the SX properly but worked out another couple of things with it.  Least I am getting both feet in the straps 50 % of the time.  Spin out is still a problem

Tried out new secret spot- "AREA 45" with Doug, Richie, Ash and Lozza.

We had a NE building from 2 knots to 15 then shifting more ENE

It's got potential...it'll hold any wind except West....a bit lumpy when its in the north but great fun with long runs.

Good rig area, toilets, no rocks once your away from shore and ....NO KITES!!!!!

Early runs were on the Xcite 160 with 6.9 but moved down to the 135 as the wind built.  Kept the 6.9 for most of the day...wasn't really overpowered, held it down and everything felt smooth!.

Everyone went smaller but I stayed out on the 6.9 and got my fastest runs.  Then in the last hour the wind got up to around 20-25KTS, so I changed down to the 5.2

GEAR:

Xcite 160

42 Jp FIN

NP Excess 6.9

down to

Xcite Ride 135

38 Mean Fin

NP Excess 6.9- down to NP Expression 5.2

Hi EJ

yeap I reckon we need to play at this spot more.

The only drama we had yesterday was the king tide probably didn;t do us any favours and the wind was too square for us to get onto the spit that runs

roughly North-South.

As it was we pretty much ran through chop- nothing like Jman, George and Windrider deal with in the bay but stil big enough tobounce from the top of a wave to another.

Hey Mick - I was sailing at Area 51 where were youEmbarassed  No wonder you where beating me on times.  Yeh the new spot is a little more chop than Inverloch but a lot less than the Bay.  Loved the long runs.  In the morning went from one side to the other before the wind change and then we had to run out to the sandbank but still probably a 200 mtr run whereas Inverloch was 50 mtrs.  Need to investigate all wind directions.

Hey Old salty,

Nice numbers..very similar.

Isn't ir interesting that the only difference in our numbers was that long run you went on for nautical mile while mine was the gybe (probably the only one!) I nailed on the short run.

I loved that long run.  I was trying to line it up again when the ENE 20 - 25 kt change hit but was running out of gas, cramping and on the small board and did not want to risk a long walk of shame.  You should have come up from Lysterfield and helped me prepare for the bush fire heading our way.  We where 1 /2 hr away from moving the horses.  Had our fire plan enacted and about to man the pumps when the change came through

Jerry, Kato is right, got stung 3 times by jelly fish, next time wearing my stinger suit - serious.  I only saw one stingray around 60cm across and  Mick trod on one.  He reckons it was the first time he has walked on water.

EVAN I think you need to edit your comments.  It is Area 51.  The nice thing about Area 51 verus Inverloch is that I believe it will work on more wind directions and the runs will be longer than what we have at Inverloch even on the outer bank.  I will also stick my neck out and say given the right conditions it will be better than Inverloch and potentially give the Pit a run for its money.  ESPECIALLY IF NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT IT AND YOU CAN SAIL IT WITHOUT TRAFFIC.Smile
