Gusty Northerly @ Rye

2 categories

LOCATION:  Skippies

WIND:  N-NW-NE_E-SW-N- 0-25 Kts

WATER TEMP:  Spanner water

SAILORS:  CHUNNY, OLD SALTY

GEAR:  Excite Ride , 42 cm JP Fin, KA Koyote 5.9

DETAILS:  Very gusty and all over the shop @ Skippies...when the wind came it it was howling...water not too choppy but definately not flat.

Old Salty and I set the challenge, starting at hitting 20ky 2 sec then increasing it up by 1 knot increments.  Maxed out @ 23...there simply wasn't enough wind (or enough feeling left in the hands and feet!)

Got smashed on the last run in...the wind came from all quadrants...one sec I was running  a port tack back to the rigging area...the next minute I was running away from the shore on the same tack....got totally nailed and did a rather impressive somersault/forward pike....it wasn't scored highly by the judges owing to the splash on dismount!!!!

Mistral Barge 144 ltr

Select 38cm Fin

Koncept 6.6 with pre bent mast

Location: Skippies N, NW, NE 15kts gusting to 25kts

Sailors: George and Mick

Pre bent mast was my secret weapon today.  Helped with speed and jumping ability.  Scored best jump on the water.  Conditions where difficult and water was ice cold so only an hour on water.  Large holes in wind all over the place so had to wait for it to fill in before heading out.  A couple of runs felt solid and under control, even surprisingly when I did the unintentional jump.  Hit something and board spun out big time but when got it back under control the acceration was amazing.  Coffee afterwards was great

Well done Andrew! Nice pb's.

Many people down there on Saturday? Seemed to be one of the better locations on the bay from reports. Was tempted but a bit to do yesterday.

Hey Guys,

Wasnt a lot of chop as there wasnt a lot of water, had to keep an eye on some VERY shallow sandbanks. Wind was very up and down and swinging north to almost easterly. Think it got stronger as i was leaving...always the way,
