Sandford, TAS, AU

Sonic 90

Koyote 5.3

First time on the board and sail, absolutely loved both. First time on a slalom board at all - should have tried one years ago! Could have used a bigger sail, but wanted to try the Koyote - hmm, I think I need a quiver of them!

Great to see so many on the water so early in the "season".

My new GT31 turned up during todays sail.  I had already done 50 odd kms and got my highest 2sec for the day so didn't get to directly compare it to the Garmin I've been using.  Created a couple of files and uploaded to KA72, all seems to be working well so I should be able to get my Dopplers out for all to see in future sails.Cool

Hi Steve,Smile

Sailing feeling rundown is not recommended felt flat and forgot the wetsuit!!! ahhhhh!!!!

I tried the weight vest, I actually think it needs to be blowing hard otherwise its like an energy zapper. I found it so hard to get plaining with it on.

Look to be honest I did learn today not to use it unless it’s windy or you are overpowered with a big sail in marginal wind.

Next time I will get my grove back and post something worth placing on site. Not sure if a weight vest is going to be my thing.

Cheers Russ

Thanks Bear for lending your wetsuit I promise I did not piss in it. Thanks Anthony for the Beer and rev up for sailing soooo s**t and thanks Kaleb for loading the post.

Usually when you feel sick Frown sailing fixes me up?

Wow, good to see so many posts and so many PB's!!  Well done Jodie on a successful first session - over 20 knots top spped is good!!  That's a pretty good 1 hour for the lagoon Kaleb!!

Cheers Dave! I use the 'Dont stop Dont stop go go go' approach and make sure that I never use a full run to try and get max speed.  The key in the Lagoon is not to head off down wind, and to use really fast tacks as well as planing gybes(obviously not at the same time).  I only use a short section at the end of my run to try for max speed and then use that speed to carry me upwind into a quick tack or if the waters settled a tight fast gybe.  If I head off down wind looking for speed and then carry it into a fast drawn out planing gybe I end up along way down wind and in the Lagoon thats no good at all as the short runs will see you beating your way back up wind for a few of them, instead of just sailing backwards and forward at high 20's and low 30's.

Just thought I'd share some of my thinking with you.

P.S. It also helps to be there when the winds got a good strength to it and the tides high so your not restricted to the chanel.Smile

When are we going to HentyTongue out  Please DO NOT say WednesdayCry Of all days why does Wednesday have to look windy, bugger!

Good to hear how you did your 1 hour, well done.  How many gybes did you do (you should be able to count them off your GE overlay).  Sounds like you had pretty good speed for most of your reaches back and fourth to counteract the number of gybes.

Seriously, regarding Henty, if the wind is NW or even with a hint of more west in it, then the forecast strength is actually looking very good, but any north in it (ie NNW) and it becomes too broard to get going down the run (which is what Johno got last time he was there).

I will keep an eye on the forecast and may go - by the sounds of it, you've got something on Wednesday?

Yeh! I've been doing a Certificate 4 in Training and Assesment(helps to cement my position at college, a Uni degree means means very little in the VET system) and for part of that i have to participate in an external VET Validation process.  Guess what, state wide validation day is Wednesday at Claremont College.  One thing I most certainly cannot miss out on.Yell

That's no good!!  Looking at the charts, I reckon the wind will be a bit to North until late in the day, so might not be ideal.  Thursday is a good direction (west, tending SW later), but strenght is only marginal 15-20 knots.  However, I'd probably prefer to go in a westerly with bigger gear than have it windy, but too broad to sail.  You never know, Thursday might improve!!  That could be your carrot to get validation over and done with!!
