Inverloch, VIC, AU

12 - 20 kt Southerly

Xcite 122 Koncept 6.6 JP38 then C3 Venom 36

Road trip with Mick and George.  Thanks to Mick all crammed into his car and trailer

Lumpy never really felt comfortable.  Board too big for conditions but that was all I could fit into Mick's trailer.  Good to spend time on the water

LOCATION:  NGLING CLUB

WIND: S-SW- 10-15 GUST TO 20

TIDE:  MASSIVE!  INCOMING

GEAR:  Jp Excite 160, 46 cm SS FIN, DOWN TO CA FR 77- 40 cm c3, KA Koncept 7.3

DETAILS:  Intersting session with George, Doug, Rob and Evan.

After providing the freight and logistics for the Buster crew, the wind came through after a rain squall but was suprisingly gusty for a southerly.  Most of the runs were off and on- going from dogging it to nearly  being overpowered.  Shoulder was playing up from an over enthusiastic brownie point gathering session in the garden the day before!  The tide was really running and the big gear was rounding up and hard to control, so I came in and changed down the the Carbon Art.  Heaps better!  The board cut through the chop and wasn't pushed to around as much.  Late in the day, and with a tide covering all of the sandstrip, we had a 1-2 foot swell running onto the beach near Screw Creek.  The cross shore wind made it great fun to drop in on the wave face then bottom off and pick up the next one.  THE CA relished in this stuff and felt really solid.  The Koncept was getting a bit back handy at this stage, although I reckon it was lack of strength in the arms rather than the wind being too strong..

George, put a Venom in the Futura and you wont look back (cause you'll be going so fast you wont have time:). Seriously though, the Drakes (prior to 2011) that come with the Futura's really are pretty average.

Instead of the Venom I'm initially looking for a decent weed fin. When the conditions are right on the speed strip I'm worried about smashing myself to bits on the sandbars.

Doug - I hope your feeling OK, It seemed you weren't handling the gusts very well.

BIG thanks to Mick the windsurf taxi.

Fair enough George. I have never had a problem with hitting the sandbars at Inverloch but that's possibly due to the fact that I wont sail over them until I'm sure it's deep enough. A little too cautious I guess but I don't want to wreck my 250 dollar fins, board, sail or body. More chances of me tripping over a weed fin (protruding from the back of a board) on the beach than hitting a sandbar in the water. Understand what your saying though.

Its an interesting one... Red reckons a weedie might be a good idea on the shallow end of the strip, but I do wonder what effect it would have on your ability to pinch upwind.  Its not an issue for the majority of the time when we are broad or off the wind in both directions.  Yesterday it would have been fine on the starboard tack down towards Screw Creek but you really had to drive upwind on the way back, and I dont know if a weedie would give you enough lift (????)

I agree Evan,

My last sail down there when there was some huge clumps of seaweed floating about, I saw a bloke go SPLAT after hitting one.

I'm more catious after following KATO and mincing myself in ankle deep water but I'd like to try the weedie and if it is good, stick with that.
