Firiebob (10112km): Light northerly wind, grabed the big gear and just did some coastal cruising, sailed up to the mouth of the Barron River and did a down winder back. When I got out it picked up of course, nice sail

Squid Lips (2210km): Sandy Point, Missile S, Koncept 5.8, C3 Slingshot 21
Well, yesterday ended up being an expensive and eye opening day. This was my first try at real speed sailing on the Missile I got from Hardie a few months ago. Keeping it all together with a big sail on a tiny board in 30 to 40 knots takes a lot of work. I have even more respect for the guys who were going fast, they are real athletes. I won't be going back to Sandy in conditions like that until I'm fitter and have a helmet!
I only managed 4 runs yesterday so there was still a lot of tuning left to do to get comfortable. The combo was fast (for me) straight off though, with every run better than my old PB. I think if I didn't crash I would have gone over 40 for sure. But, I did crash... On this run, annoyingly close to 40
I spun out and tried to bail by sitting down. I think the other side of my board must have tripped and I ended up tumbling over my gear, smashing my knee into the underside of my board and hit my head on something, probably the mast. This is the result
Plus a lump on my head and a sore and swollen knee. I had planned to stay down there for the weekend but called it a day and went home. Will have to get a quote on the board repair and try and decide if speed sailing is really for me. It wasn't really what I'd call "fun" yesterday. Very challenging and a big thrill though.
