Melville Beach.

Pretty wild and woolly at Melville today.

Got down there around 11 and the breeze was booting in big time.

Rigged the 6.6 TR7, cos I didn't pack anything smaller, and plugged in the SP47 + 23 Slingshot.

Too rough to ever get comfortable on the speedboard, so after a few runs on that combo I switched to the 111 Futura + 36 Goldwing (would've dearly loved having my 93 S-Type, but she's in the shop getting patched up after getting blown into the carpark at Safety Bay earlier this month Surprised).

The 111 was a handful in the conditions, so well pleased with a 33.9 on the dial and a 33.03 ten second.  Hit the 'Eject' button a few times when she was getting rather untidy going fast and broad.

Called it a day after battling my way upwind in a 35K squall with stinging hail to get back to the carpark after it swung WSW.

The Snake was still at it when I left. Cool

Pelican Point, WA, RRD FSW 85, KAOS 4.7

Got to Melville and realised that I should have brought smaller kit. Quick chat to Snake, Pointman and Rowan then a dash home and back down to Peli Point. Huge wind shadow as the wind was slowly swinging further north. Good choice of gear, nice to be fully powered on the 4.7 - my first outing on it. Nice sail.

I'd never thought i'd get to say it was too windy...

A great place though, any length run you want shallow enough to stand most of the time.

Pretty choppy in the 25 to 40 knot winds today.

Felt more comfortable on my wave board but paid the penalty with not being able to get it over the 30 knot mark.

Good turnout down there, met the locals, Recycle and Mark from Perth (both blitzing it)

Big day at Glory Holes.LaughingLaughing More later

Got down at about 12.30 after what felt like driving sideways for an hour to see JJ on a 4m wavesail hanging on for his life (and doing a good job). We all hid behind a bush and occasionally poked heads out to see JJ's next extreme maneuvre. Tail walks, jumps, spin outs and impressive crashes as well as some screaming runs. Big bonus points for tackling the conditions.

Eventually rigged the 5m koncept and took out the nonose.

First run was a woop de doo wild ride with a top speed of 30! Came in and changed the harness lines and things were better with a couple of 32.7's Put some more weight in the jacket and squeaked a 33. Recycle also had a 33 and we were contemplating an honourable draw as the wind meter read 38 knots.

After a while was getting cold so went out again and found a flatter patch for a couple of 34's. Came in and stirred up Recycle who went out and pulled out a 35.6! Impressive in the still very choppy conditions.

Shortened the boom a couple of notches to bag the sail and pulled out a 35.47. The muppet summoned me over to report a 34 and was smug that he was beating Bender. Had to go and stir Bender up and he got the bit between his teeth. A sweet slingshot saw him get a 36.9 and I was just behind him for a 36.2. That was the best gust /water combo of the day and the wind started to drop.

Everybody had packed up but I got a few more runs in before it dropped and I had to do a short walk of shame.

Should have rigged the 7 as it was getting sweet but with no one else around and a reasonable drive decided to be sensible.

Awesome to have space to play in and good strong wind. Probably this time last year since I had a solid outing on the 5m. So much more fun than Melville on a weekend.

Good to catch up with a bunch of the crew. Now if bender could just arrange to move GH closer to Perth it would be great.

Koncept '07 5m, nonose, F1 26, short session at the end on KA23.

Only one word for it, skunked.

Hard to believe it's possible today, but that's how much the wind can drop in the time it takes to rig up and dress for cold conditions.

Disappointing, but more fun than Thursday, strangely enough.

Windy & choppy day out at melville. Survival mode for the most part of the big squalls. A nice sailing racing around with Rowen, Troutty, Somepunk, Greg and others. Missed the window for speed runs as the wind shifted radically soon after I hit the water and the flat water near the shore disappeared, Stoked with the alpha considering the water state. Great sesh! So what's all this about taking off to Australind without letting the rest of the team know?

I have finally recovered from the thrashing I got on Thursday and ventured down to Melville after some commitments this arvo. Rigged the 4.9 for the current conditions but was disappointed when the wind dropped to 12 knots as I hit the water. Not even enough wind to get into the footstraps. Frown Nice to see Jake though, who was feeling a bit lonely and wondering where the rest of the team was. Said he'd heard a rumour you were down at Australind...

Patrick, hard to imagine you on a 4.7! That's my size sail!

I had Father in laws 82 birthday, Mullaloo Tavern with ocean view, 2 kites out for a bit. Driving home, 2 sailors south of Hillarys marina (!), some surfers north of mettams.  Looked pretty damn windy !

Glory holes sounds great !

So unfit that after 2 sails I think I needed a rest anyway.

Nice going Pointman. I can't imagine trying to hold down a 68 wide board in those conditions! Not to shabby top speeds either Lao Shi. Don't you love it when those flat patches appear in front of you!
