Drift (5307km):
4500 days ago LOCATION: AREA 45
WIND: W- < 25 KTS with holes...
GEAR: Ca Fr77, C3 venom 40, down to Ca fr63, C3 36, KA Koyote 6.6
DETAILS: Just a little bit of chop out there!...first section was amazing- with waves coming from every direction except where they should have been coimng from!...once you got through them there was about 250 metres of flat water, then the chop from the Doyles Road channel would start to make it a bumpy ride.
The tide was running out and creating some crazy swirling water which wanted to pilot the nose of the board. The wind also would go from 25 knots solid to less than 10 so a few times the board would drop off the plane and the tide would want to steer!.
Got on a great bullet on the way back in and went pretty deep, thinking that I'd well and truly gone past the bank and that I'd have enough clearence to get over it anyway...NOT SO! Nice decelleration and catapault into about 12cm of water- from about 26 knots to zero!
Broke the cleat on my outhaul so it was game over....
