Clifton Beach, QLD, AU Wind 14-18 knots Gear X fire 105 Sting 2 40 RSR E 2 7.0

Another DAY & another X6 mast broken -430 snapped in 3 above & below boom clamp -3rd time i'd used it AHHRrr

Was ~ 3-4klms from shore on the Reef flats off double island .Managed to swim in to the resort area where believe it or not ,the caretaker retrieved a 20 yr north fiberglass 460 from the shed & sent me on my way again .How lucky is that ???SmileSmile

Tide was too full so water was superlumpy today .

Need to switch to RDMs for all future off shore work -simply cannot trust the SDMs any more -5 this year ....

Sorry Kel -we had big plans for today ...

Holloways Beach, QLD, AU

Thanks Firie for double checking - no point in owning something that is not yours. Thought that something was a miss hence my second guessing as to "HOW". Ill give you a call tomorrow to see when you are going to hit the water.

Had Holloways all to myself this arvo. Good solid 15-18 knts possibly with 20knt peaks at times. Usual washing machine conditions and all I wanted to do was better my (previous PB?) from last week - kept my leading leg straight and my following leg bent. Was uncomfortable but some how felt really stable. Quick session for the arvo as the fitness of an office bunny is really starting to show. As the ledgends from the mountain would say"Life is Bloody Good"

104 Screamer, 6.2 Sailworks Revo and Freddy's borrowed Fin Works Pro.

Hi Billy mate, that 2sec is 2 knots better than I have ever done there and nearly 2 knots better than Kel, no more advise for you Laughing

Seriously, send me your file I think something's wrong, maybe not fingers crossed Wink I'm busy this arvo/night so bear with me if I don't do it straight up.

Cam,

Snapped in 3 Surprised Got my first RDM coming next week for the 6.3 and 7.0 so hopefully I can sail with some confidence again off the beach.  You would have to be either the unluckiest sailor I know or NP have a serious QA issues. Good to hear you made it back in on piece.  Spoke to Firie whilst he was waiting - unfortunately he didn't get on the water.

Billy, Firie can check your track for you.

Still a good team effort.      Although we were rigged and standing at the beach, we did not think there was much wind.   After yesty we were not really motivated.Embarassed

Interesting story dr cam. Others might disagree, but I think the days of sailing hard offshore on SDMs are well and truly over. Either sails have changed or mast construction has changed; either way they're just not fit for the job anymore.

Hi Cam, changed from SDM to RDM and haven't looked back. Used to be afraid to clamp the boom too tight, leave the sail rigged for too long etc. Had so many masts break even while rigging up. Now I quite often rig up 2 sails an leave one on the beach without the worry of stressing the mast. Had some hard crashes and NO breakages from my 3 RDM,s!- Yet!
