Obelix (1397km): Pelican Point, WA - 101L/7m/38cm First picked up a seat harness from Anita @ Windforce, then Pelican Point. Took me a little while to get used to it. Definitelly better than the waist harness for me. It's harder to hook in (may need a bit longer lines now), but somehow I get going much sooner and in less wind than before. I was hoping for the mile and hour, but improved the hour only. The speed PB was a bonus. Good to catch up with Toby and Ray Gun. Hmm... what happened to Alpha?

Macka Packa (8161km): Pelican Point, WA, Skunked Nice to catch up with the Peli crew. Congrats on the PBs Obelix

Birdman (1819km): Pelican Point, WA, AU Manta69, NP RSS7m2 JP 42cm
Short fun session from 2pm to 3.30pm. Had to leave early for kids swimming classes but at least I got reunited with the Manta in near ideal conditions.

Ricey (1918km): Pelican Point, WA, AU RRD 98 with 6.5 turbo and 38 fin Enjoyable sail, got a few planing gybes. Had a go at n mile but rather slower than I thought. Then I see a PB alpha so those gybes are coming together: thanks Simon Bornhoft.

Snake (13281km): Lancelin Bay for a couple of hours with plenty of people out and about. Should have had 6.3 up but thanks to a popped mast was forced to use 5.7. Pretty fun session and nice to have a few blasts with Jeff and Jonah. Ram 5.7, FO Weedy28, iSonic 81
lao shi (27489km): Beaver for a crack at the Naughty. Both attempts were exactly the same speed! First included a run down the bar with a spin out in the middle and the second ended at the top of the bar as I dredged weed even with a weedy. Bar was sweet but just needed more wind. Good to catch up with Adam. Best 10sec was 36.89. Just realised that this is my 4th best 5x so a SBay PB and (sorry to say it ) felt super easy. EDIT: Just realised that this is a 500m PB at 34.57. Pointman (8480km): Ledge Point, WA Practice downwinder to Lano with Bender, Kiwi Terry and a few other crew. Fully lit on the Futura 111 + 6.6 TR7 + 34 weedster combo (would've been a lot more comfy on wave kit ) Gusts were solid 25K, but it was more the sea state and vicious chop that made the conditions extremely challenging. First run off the beach to decide whether to take on the mission I had a big over-the-bars, but decided to go for it anyway as at this stage Sat's forecast for Race Day wasn't flash. First third was OK, but it was scary putting the power down, as nasty bits of chop kept rearing up in amongst the swell lines, and I was getting a lot more air time than I usually bargain for on the Futura. Started to get fatigued about half way, which didn't bode well for Saturday, but it was too late to turn around. Coming in to a scheduled pit stop at Back Beach I got flung again at over 30K, which knocked the stuffing out of me and bent my harness hook, so I decided I'd had enough punishment for one arvo. Packed up the kit and walked through the dunes to the edge of town, where Bender picked me up after sailing the rest of the way to Lano. Fun arvo (kind of, pretty brutal at times), but damn the beers tasted good afterwards.

Hardpole (5685km): Lancelin, WA, had a play out the back before switching to slalom gear in the bay. Nice day out but perhaps a bit too much considering the race was the next day. at the time the forecast was for 10-15 se on saturday so didnt think the race would be on. |
