Weird SE wind on the lake. Blew in hard then dropped to not much, then up and down all day, with some nice windy periods. Out on JP supersport first, then onto the longboard. Doing some training with Dad in challenging conditions. Good to see a bunch of people down at the lake.

Lake Illawarra, NSW, AU SSE 0 - 28 knots Gusty!!

Started off with the iSonic but well underpowered. Swam back to base as the wind died, set up the raceboard kit , broke the 530 mast in the first 50m Frown, fortunately didn't damage the new raceboard sail. I rerigged with IK's mast (thanks!) and had a great sail with Ben, simulated numerous race situations. The wind was building up to near 20 knots, making the lake quite choppy. The new sail is a gem - the shape looks like it would not handle the windy conditions (not much static twist), but it works much better than the old sail in these conditions.Smile

After a break Ben & I set up the high wind set ups - different sails and fins and went back out on the lake. Wow - windy - on the limit of this setup. The hardest part was the steep chop - almost impossible to bear away without nosediving the board. A good day all in all.

Not bad 5 by 10, OK 2 second peak Mike, but you'll have to lift your game for the NM.  You'll note the ACT Gustbusters have claimed the Illawarra open ocean Nautical Mile record with a speed of 22.8 knots. No looking back thru old files the competition started today.

Classic Canberra tactic - make up the rules after the session has ended! Game on Knighty! It's a sensational board - I haven't really had a chance to sail it in flat water so 30 is about as high as I've had it - I think Chris Ting might have got over 33, not bad for a 80cm wide board

Tactics! This is yacht racing Mike.  You know the Gustbusters were the tactical brains behind the 1983 Americas cup win don't you?
