Safety Bay, WA, AU 6.4K, Mistral speed 49, 24 elmo weedy

Not as windy as hoped for. Not enough for speed runs. Sad I couldn't sail yesterday. Had trouble getting upwind today. May need to use a bigger fin with this sail. Making progress with gybing the Mistral but haven't completed one yet.

Lancelin, WA, AU

Great couple of hrs at Sth passage with the "Lifestyle Crew" of Bjorn, Dan, John and Tom.

Some good waves and a couple of absolute floggings!Yell Worst one was on a party wave where the guy downwind of me cut back up and forced me right under the breaking section. Had to let go of the boom when I ran out of breath after being ragdolled by the white water.Embarassed Luckily only a short swim.

Definitely used some of the damage limitation training from the course.

Good to get a couple of smacks off the whitewater and improving reading the wave.

Kaos 4.7 (might have to get a 4.2!), rider x-onshore.

Anita I find the key to gybing the speed board at Safety Bay (out in the rollers anyway) is to find a nice swell to gybe on and make sure you carry enough speed into the turn to complete the rig flip before you stall.  Wink

and in the pond?

It really turns well with a full on 'Slowboat style' lay down of the sail, but I don't know how to finish the gybe after the lay down bit! Embarassed

major progress today was tightening up the footstraps so I can get my feet out more easily.

Windxtasy, have a look at Cribby's articles http://www.guycribb.com/windsurfing_technique_holiday0065v01.aspx?awvariantid=1

He breaks down the stages of the gybe.

You will need to register on the site first.

Happy to do another gybe session if you want. Maybe a trip to alphaland.

Basically: Rocking the rig across to the outside of the turn whilst opening the clew.

Hang off the boom with elbows pointed down whilst switching feet

Keep weight low and on heels while flipping the rig.

I would guess the main thing will be getting your weight forward due to the skinny tail. So front hand back to front harness line and back hand as far back as it will go. Stay low and unhook. Start gybe by extending front arm and sheeting in. If you have done enough of a bear away and are carrying enough speed that should get you round.

This wave sailing sounds too much like hard work. Exciting though.
