Another Melville dawn patrol. Team Capt Pete was a little slow off the mark and needed multiple phone calls to get him down there. Snides was first on the scene. It was still pitch black when I got there. Claude turned up a little while later. It was cold, wet and miserable so took a while to get motivated to rig. Snides and PD on the mission first up. Then Claude and I. The "workers" didnt stay long before bailing off to have some fun at their desks. The wind held out till about 2pm. By which time Ado and Matt turned up for some mission time.

Great fun. Good gusts in the mid 20s. I used the 6.6m all day, with SP47 and 23cm KA symmetric fin. The chop started off totally mental, but smoothed off a tad by lunchtime as the mega-high tide started to drop. Got my fastest run in front of a rain squall where I actually got overpowered for the only time all day. I guess that one hit 30kts but the chop was a bit tricky to convert it to more than 38.8 on the dial. I was on the verge.

Not a lot of kms for time spent there. hmmm. I was knackered from yesterday. Claude the machine pumped out some distance today. He didnt look tired at the end.

swan river perth to the top right cornerhere is the shot of my meagre attempt today, perth city centre is top right corner.

melville, pelican point and pt walter are the place marks.

Steve the chop close to melville launch is horrendous and very confused the chop softens and becomes more uniformed swells as you approach majestics point,i estimate this morning the swell approaching  a meter in height.

keep in mind the swell is running with the wind so you can pick a fast line along through the troughs.

you guys... I reckon it was more like 600 and if he didnt have to go off and play some other game later he would have pounded out another 200kms or more. Claude is a machine.

Oh Gawd - what have I started - the Commissioners of Guinness will be on to me!

It's just my estimate given Claudes tenacity and capacity, and noticing how hard he was going at 8.00 am when I left!!!!!

Wait for him to post!!

Claude a Machine? Surprised I knew it, I knew it!!!!!! However, I think that disqualifies him, no humanoid robots allowed, we might have to deduct all Claude's sessions from the SRMWink

SurprisedSurprisedSurprised for the distance

SurprisedSurprisedSurprised for the speeds in the chop

SurprisedSurprisedSurprised for the 32kt nautical mile through biiig chop

Cool for the speed at which emoticons now appear on the GTC site!

Thanks for the images of where you sailed chris and Steve, I can see green numbers in the scribble, it illustrates realy well for me the angle to which I need to bear away, really is a long way from a reach (looks as though the wind was pretty much westerly and the speed runs head north east. Is that correct?

Super efforts Chris and Claude, and Snides too.

The suspense was killing us Claude - sorry mate - imagination!

Melville Beach is the only decent place you can sail Perth [on slalom/speed gear] in a westerley ,or a few degees either side. It is a vicious choppy place at times, with about two miles of nasty river fetch. However, if you come unstuck you drift in to the grassy or sandy shoreline. Chris learned to sail there I think!

To go fast in these conditions you have to hook into a gust and drive deep through the troughs. It takes mental steel to do it and hold it all together in the biggest gusts. It takes even more to hold it for 1852m.

Great going team. I was at my desk when you were roaring!! Frown

PS - please dont bugger up the page anymore Chris - I have a zipper down the right of screen!!
