Chris Porter (8173km): Got to Meliville as the wind dropped. Came in a little bit later on. Had a fun blast with Jemma out for the first time this season. I found the fin a bit small to crank upwind or get planing in the lulls. Naish SP 91; Naish Session 5.8; CL Slalom 27cm Mark was still out racking up the km's when I left. Sould be a good day for Pinna's.
nebbian (8209km): Hardies run with the Strapper, started on Loft Blade 6.8 then changed to Ezzy 5m wavesail. Most numbers done on the Ezzy. Got there at 6:45 to find Evets rigging up, we hit the water together and sailed for a couple of hours before the wind picked up. I changed down to the 5m, and had a great time practising duck gybes and going fast... I stopped after a 5 minute lull where I couldn't waterstart (not enough wind) and got really cold. I was hoping for a big distance score but the wind just looked too chancy. In hindsight I could have stayed out all day. Can't wait for summer and consistent seabreezes!
Pugsie (1703km): Melville with lao shi. CA SP60, Loft Blade 6.8, 33 cm Goldwing. Always bouncy in that wind direction...
Hardpole (5685km): After the lack of wind yesterday I thought I would go to the ocean (pinnaroo point) and guarantee some wind. There was some there ! 5m Ezzy Wave, Kombat 79l - newly renamed yesterday - the yellow submarine. Great fun, but not much good for speed. Quite a bit of aerial work (not voluntary) Got home and the only email I got this morning was a spam with the subject "Relax your tired muscles by using Soma." - How did they know !!!
lao shi (27489km): Trip meter showed 77.76 Nmiles which converts to 144Km. Have had this before. Why the difference? Which should I use? Wow, what a day. Started at 9am following James out into scary chop sailing across to Peli Pt. Couldn't catch him and his speeds for the morning session smoke mine by a couple of knots. Held on to the 6.6 expecting it to drop but it didn't. Only way to handle the power was bear away and run down the trough of the rolling chop. Pretty scary at times. On one run saw someoone in the water for a while which turned out to be Chris A of SRM. His face was a mass of claret and there was a hole where the window on his sail used to be. Stayed with him till he got to shore and he seemed ok but his nose had a good kink in it. Saw Slowy heading up to the flatter water and followed until I collected a fin of weed and went over the handlebars. He disappeared up to Pt W (upwind in a westerly!). Trashed the top batten on the 6.6 at some point so changed to the 5.4 combat wave just as the wind eased. Tried the combat on the sonic but it just felt weird. Rigged the 7.6 and went out as the wind picked up again. Some crazy runs down wind as there was no way I could hold the sail upwind with the 34 fin screaming like a banshee. Left that set up rigged and went out on the JP with the combat. Water flattened as the wind shifted SW. Had one good run in the flat for top speed. Wind dropped again and went back out on the 7.6 until even that wouldn't plane any more at about 4pm. Long day! Hour not so good due to broken outhaul, broken batten, helping Chris and wind change. Don't think that I have ever changed through so much gear in a day before.
Marcel (1692km): Arrived at Lucky Bay around 10 ish - really blowing hard so rigged a 5.8 wave but still got smashed.... at one stage I decided to take time out and float on my back for a bit after a big crash... saw a couple of dolphins jump! That was cool. Goya 105, 32 maui fin, 5.8 ezzy wave. |
