Short sail at Sandgate with Mikey, Mk & Haggar. Wind was too light with only the occasional gust to 18knts.

First sail all week after recovering from gastro bug all week, am buggered now.

Huge thank you again to Simon and John for helping out when my mast base broke a km off Manly. I was not looking forward to swim back that's for sure, and the spare base Simon hooked my up with made it way more pleasant! I don't even have a good story to go with it as it was a slow crash mid-gybe :( Only the 2nd time out on the small board, and the first time in nearly a year in a decent wind. Got better as the session went on, but I need more practice in stronger winds, and on the small board - I kept stepping off while gybing, not as wide as my Falcon :p F2 Stoke 106, North Ram F8 6.8.

Manly with JPSLII 84, Daytona 5.4, Vector 30.

At one stage trackpoints gave me 11 consecutive 2s readings above 33 knots with a peak over 35 knots.  Doesn't look anything like a spike, but at the same time doppler was reading under 30.

Ian, I had one like that a while back. Everyone who looked at it said it looked ok.....but Vando did the Doplier V Trackpoints and his verdict was- NO. Send it to him if you want it checked.

Hi Ian,

I've had this happen to me as well, we concluded that it was a 'spike' that was automatically smoothed out by the NAVI firmware.  Some of the smart boys in the Pit Crew have figured out what's happening, unfortunately it doesn't count as 35 knots Frown

Thanks for the advice Nebbian and Mike.  Vando's had a look and agrees that it must be a problem with the trackpoints.

It makes sense to me that the trackpoint data was way wrong in this instance.  I certainly didn't recall having any standout runs in that direction.  All the same, it is strange that a spike can end up changing the speed in what appears to be a realistic manner over an entire 20 second period.  Without the doppler tracks you would have no idea to scrap it.

BTW I've only ever posted doppler results (except for alphas) from the GT11 due to the greater accuracy.  When I was calculating the alpha speed I noticed the big discrepancy in 2s, had  a closer look and was suprised that it looked like a realistic track and not an obvious spike.
