Futura 101, Lightning 6.0, Fin32 - I agree Nelson, nothing clicked. But the new 6 metre felt good. Good PB Graceman, you'll be doing 180 k's in no time!

CR5.6, F2SX-S/IS50, 26 fins. Spent a lot of the day as caddy for CB and Mrs Windrider. A good day was had by all! Fastest speed on the little board (though felt faster than just 30), alpha on the F2. Odometer said 180km though reelspeed said 21km Wink.  I probably say this every time, but boy that little board is fun to sail - everyone should have one!

Well done CB on cracking 20kn - following Nelson's orders from yesterday!

JP SS 118. NP 7.2 (Busted Batten), NP 31cm weedy

Some good gusts and some biggg holes, good day out with the team, had a trip with Stibo over to Point Walter which was a dud when we got there.

Great day good company and fantastic team, hope the crew did well at Ledge-> Lancelin.

Saw Lao up at Walter, the nasty person had sucked all the wind out.

Hey Stribo another distance PB!! Embarassed

Downloaded the new GPS TC GT and amended some values

Looks like a pretty good day for most.  Nice effort team.

I managed to find a cray line less than 1km from the start of the race.  Spectacular catapult (think Bigdog had a good view/chuckle) resulting in a broken harness line.  Cry.  Ah well.  Still a fun weekend.

sorry didn't read that right Yes my alphas are track point.

Nelson

Set up a new division in Realspeed for Alpha 500 & set it to Trackpoint, you get a more accurate (read higher) reading.

You can then compare the two.

My understanding is Doppler does not work well with the Alphas & I seem to recall where it was recommended to use Trackpoint for Alphas only though.

Good hour StriboCool

Alpha in TP or Doppler, came up other day from Lao Shi. Nebbian indicated GT11's use TP but the GT31 use Doppler.

Scott, Unme both, re AlphaFrown

If you are confused about alpha calculations, the latest version of Reelspeed (available from the intellimass website) has separate alpha divisions setup for GT11s and GT31s. Just select the one appropriate to your GPS - it sorts out the trackpoint V doppler stuff. I think it assumes that you have the latest firmware for the GT31 though. There is also a different version of Reelspeed for the Garmins. (Where I say different version for the different GPS devices, it is actually just the default file that is different (I think)).

What happens where I need both for Garmin & GT-31?

Can I download both?

In the mean time should I not use Trackpoint until I get the latest Realspeed, I have the latest GT-31 Firmware.

Good one Clare, getting better every week nowLaughing

Smaller board faster times hey dadWink

A couple of observations on the alpha question: I have loaded the Garmin version of Reelspeed (GPS TC GMN.EXE) and compared it to the GT version. The GT version has 2 alpha categories (GT-11 is one, GT-31 the other). The GT-31 uses doppler, the GT-11 uses trackpoints and produces identical results to the Garmin version (on my test trackfile). So Paul, I suggest you load up the GT version of Reelspeed and just read off the GT11 alpha for your Garmin tracks, and the GT31 alpha for your GT31 tracks. Give me a yell if you want me to come over and show you how this works.

Jesper, that's a big board in such rough water. If you did again, would you have gone for a smaller, easier board, or do you think you had it right?

Jesper Orth

Hi Chris

I thought I picked my best option on the day. But looking back at it now, the most efficient setup might have been around a 7.5-7.7 and a 100-110 liter board. I knew with the 122 and 8.1 that I would not be first to the first mark, but hoped to make it up on the deep downwind legs, with the bigger sail. I made up some distance, but not enough.  Next year Laughing

Just had a look at Jespers trackfile.  His 2 sec speed actaully goes for 11sec (10 second time is exactly the same)???  Its the same for his tracks today.  GPS dislpay speed was 32.6....  he's using an old Garmin unit, maybe its not set up right?

Hi Annika, this usually means that the garmin is set up with "Auto" trackpoints.  This should be changed to "2 second".  I don't know where this function lives in the menus though...

Holy crap 3 of our team in the top 10 LOC that is awesome.

Fantastic runs to Jesper, Danny and Steve, commiserations to Annika who I think had gear failure.

Did Borgy get out on the water?

And Bigdog I hear that one of your sails came first in the Women's race?

Ledge I was on 7.0 rs racing evo2, 58 team edition F2, 30 mach 1 Choco. Should have taken the 68 (105 liters).  not enough  wind for the 85 liter board down wind.
Dani for Ledge was on 68 team edition, Choco fireblade 38 and I think 8.1 Severne.
Dani yesterday was on 6.5 severne 58 team edition and Choco 32 fireblade
Sailed today on RS racing evo2 6.2m 58 team edition and Choco 30 mach 1.
