Andrew Daff (9318km): Diffucult decision to make while rigging up. Do we go for 1 hr to consolidate out team position or go for speed? First 2 runs 40 knots.... Hmmm, maybe I should get the slalom board and do a 1 hr. Just then a dark cloud came over so I had another run on the small board. Yeeeharrr! 44.8 on the display. Forget team challenge. This is a SPEED day!!!!! WSW 25-30kts. Low tide just after midday. Started at about 8.45am and got off the water at about 2.15 when the incoming tide was making whoopdedos and the wind had swung too far south. (probably really good for a 1 hr attempt ) I rigged 2 5m Koncepts today so I could compare masts. The first one worked so well I somehow didn't get around to trying the other one. Also had a run on the 4.4m but was just a bit too underpowered although Mat and Tom ran 4.4's all day Ran is50 with Lockwood proto 22cm fin and it rocked! Ran CA40 with KA assy 20 for all the good runs once the wind filled in a bit with 5m 09 Koncept on RDM 100% KA Mast I just needed on more 43+ run and my PB would have been significantly better. In the end, the wind didn't come and I had to count a 42.2 I don't think todays fun will improve our position in the challenge but hell it was fun! Could be a couple of other PB from Shelby, Tom, and Peter.
Shelby (3638km): Started off looking a bit average(in a good wsw pit sort of a way) and then started having squalls of pure joy about an hour and a half before low tide The sensation feels like what I think a drag car doing the quater mile would - it's the rush that I love so much!! CA sp40,KA assy 20,RSR 5.8
kato (15334km): Crash and bash session at Inverloch after work. Lots of confused chop from every direction on the high tide, should have skiped work and done the run to the Pit Made a few jbes in the mess on the CA but was underpowered on the 5.0.Managed to turn the 40 into a jump board when the wind fired up but in the end the wind had too much west in it for a good session, got wet though and had fun. CA 40,Ka 5.0,TM 26 Fin
Spotty (4516km): Contrats team on your PBs' great improvement, and also nice work Tony Wyn' on cracking 45 2sec 44 10sec with '09 6.6 Koncept, thats awesome!! 5.3 Ka Kult Acid94 at Beau' good wind swell and chop for jumps and loops with high enough tide to get over the reef. Getting a 30 in these conditions is hard/stupid and good practice. Also...Kiter let his bar and chicken loop completely go whilst at the apex of an 8m jump about 16m from shore in less than a 1m of water. Kite sailed over the car park dragging bar past onlookers and over kit. Bar then got hooked up on a bollard in front of parked cars as kite hit tree stopping it before going onto beach road. hmmmm
Mr Love (2508km): Bump and Jump session on the Bay with my Wave Board and Koyote 5.3 (love that sail). 1.5 metre breaking wave are a challenge for speed sailing! Ha!.Retired hurt again, I seem to be making a habit of that. There was also an interesting diversion helping another sailor get to shore when his board snapped clean in half right in front of me. A fun sail.
Peter Johnston (5021km): First go on a speed board and I have to confess I was scared to really sheet in most of the time! The thing took off like a flighty racehorse leaving me struggling to get feet in straps etc! - a Lorch Division S63L bought form Martin with a hurricane fin and 5.2m Tushingham X15. I felt a bit overpowered at times. I was just very happy to actually be able to sail and waterstart a proper speed needle having heard that they could be tricky and seeing some of the "guns" sometimes having troubles getting them planing. It will be good to see how much I can push it in future sessions. |
