Very happy with some of these figures! For the 27.83, I found a gust that I was able to chase downwind, so sailing into smooth water. What a buzz!

BOM shows Canberra conditions at 3pm were 28 degrees air temp, with winds 17 to 25 knots. Very pleasant!

A typical westerly on the lake. Tried for a few alphas, but, try too hard and the tracks look like.... alphas. Need to work out an alpha navigation technique for the featureless expanses of Lake BG. Sometimes gpsresults will do NMs with a gybe or two, sometimes not, can't find the switch in the options.

Thanks Bristol for the NM analysis.

Well done! Would it be possible to post your tracks on Google Earth and some pictures? I lived close (about 100kms) from Canberra for a couple of years and am interested in the sailing there as there is always the chance we will end up around there again.

Ian, mail me your file, and I will put it through RealSpeed to get your NM.

Karl, we will try and get some pictures and tracks for you. Would you prefer if we put them on Seabreeze?

Last night, Ian and I sailed about 815 pm, during a wonderful sunset over the Brindabellas!  Pity we didn't capture that on film (well, digitally, anyway) Smile

Best to keep it all together here. That way in the future you can check it all out in one place. When is it too cold to sail in Canberra?

Hi Karl, these are the tracks from a previous day. When the westerly is steadier you can risk going down into the central basin with a reasonable chance of enough wind to get back. It's never too cold?? but there's not much wind in winter.  The red line is 0.85 of a NM, just short, but it's sometimes possible to do this as a downwinder in a norwester, you need a lucky gust to plane past the lee of the small island. The green line is where we sail in an easterly.
