5809 days ago Great day on the water. The Sandy Bay Regatta Association held it's annual windusrfer Dash-for-Cash race across the River Derwent. Wind was looking pretty good at midday, with a light seabreeze starting to come in. By 2 PM it was around 15 knots which allowed 18 entrants to start getting their gear organised ready for a 2:45 PM start. Race involved a beach start, out across the river around a permanent markand back to the beach. The wind held in and the race was won in a time of 12 minutes. I managed first place on a 122 iSonic, 7.6 SSR and 46cm Drake fin (can't wait to get my new C3's), Steve came in second on basically the same combination, followed by Rob Gordon on his Formula board and another 3 Formula Boards after him before the next slalom sailor. Just goes to show how fast the Formula Gear is, one lull in the wind and they would have had the race for sure.
After the prizegiving (and plenty of free beer and pies; tradition ...), Steve and I went back out to try a 1 hour. Wind had acutally picked up a little, but we weren't sure how long it would last (about 4PM now). As it turned out it stayed in OK and we got our 1 hour in. I think this is the first sea-breeze I've sailed this summer (very slack of me)!!
Good to see a great turn out today. Also got to show a few sailors the GPS units, with one sailor very keen to join the team and get a 50L speed board !!!
