Best public holiday in a while with a sunny fun easterly blowing through the pit.

We finally got an Easterly on a day off, even if it was a Monday Holiday.

Wind was only 15-20 knots, maybe the odd gust just a couple of knots higher. Direction was more ESE making it difficult for really good Alphas. Hard to run square to the wind but there was not much eles on offer so the boys chipped away at it all arvo for quite respectable results. My is87 is in for reapairs so I borrowed Toms CA50. First with 30cm KA slalom fin and Koncept 5.8 and later with TM26 speed and 5m Koncept which was slightly faster, especially beam reaching, but didn't pull out of Gybes as well in the fluky wind. I think the best alphas were with the KA fin and best top speeds with the TM26.

The CA 50 is a very nice board. Very light and slippery on the water and skims over chop extremly well at speed. On a rough speed course this board would be one of the best I have tried. It turns in very easlily at high speed and will turn very tight but seems to wash off speed faster than the IS87 and does not accelllerate out as well which is to be expected as it is a smaller board with a lot less tail area. On a 25+ knots day and a bit of familiarization, I recon this would be a deady Alpha weapon for sure.

Well done to Shelby and Spotty on the excellent Alphas and speeds!

Pleasant sail at Inverloch in (guessing) 12-18kn SE winds with my mate Andy and his Dad. My first time there and it is a lovely spot, although I chickened out of venturing into the (pretty small) waves. JP super-x 96L, 7m V8, then changed down to 5.2m Tush x-15 later in afternoon. My speed must have been current assisted as it seemed to be barrelling out at a huge rate.

Just like to keep it on a level playing field Chris.

Not that it should worry you Swan units..

I was thinkin' of you when I was having the time of my life on the Manta 49 though,

and did she love the Maui finco SL28 - not super fast..but turned like a wave board on acid... and slipped over some crazy pyramids like butterSmile

Anyways you Swannies are welcome to try "t" points for the A cup... if it slows us down on givin' you a major woopinMoney mouthWink

Good to see the captain of track Pt Crew post doppler today - leading by example.

I too ask why?

Either way - no sport will let you pick the eyeballs out of two results and post like "we do" with an alpha "tracky" and the rest in "dop".

The rules don't state that you have to supply Doppler? Maybe they need to be changed for all of us that have posted over a set criteria speed catergory? Create 2 ranking ladders..arghhYell

As not all Gps units provide doppler, shouldn't we all submit TPs?, my foretrex doesn't do dopplerLaughing,

Is it still recomended to supply TPs for Alpha500 as there is still a problem with Doppler in this catergory at times?

If TPs are a problem why not apply the correction factor that the GPS gurus' calculated for them, for a Doppler like result?

How about we supply half TPs and Half Doppler??? just what we need more confusion......

From here: http://gpsteamchallenge.com.au/pages/rules

You are responsible for your own data. You must believe that you actually did a certain speed before you post that number, however you work it out. This website works mostly by the honesty system, and if you aren't honest with your numbers, then you will be found out eventually.

We didn't explicitly state whether you use trackpoints or doppler because there is so much variation in what is considered the most accurate for different devices.  We left this up to the individual user to do their research, and be responsible for putting up the speed that they believe they did, however they decided to work it out.

Nah Pit crew need all the help they can get Tongue out.

But really yer up to the individual. I was posting trackpoints last year and have decided to post doppler this year.

I dont really notice alot of diff really except for peak speed.

Here here Nebs / Kato, its for fun! its the 2 sec that causes the most grief at hi speeds, I'd liked to of claimed that credible 47+ garmin2sec but went with the Dop 46 (over a knot of diff') in 07 pre my GPSTC postings.

I feel anything that looks out of the ordinary will be scrutinised within teams anyhow.

Hello Pit Crew.

You guys are 'serious' contenders  for the top spot - no question there! Several quasi sponsored team players - inifinite experinece and a great location!

Your 'serious' competitors are using a common standard.

We just want to encourage you guys to do the same - we know you can because you do it on the GPS-SS international site!!!

We just ask why [and don't want some half arsed fluff fuck answer]. Sure you can post track, sure the rules state you do not have to post doppler, and that it is a 'fun competition' but you guys have been known to 'crow' very loudly [remember your sorry comments Craig] when you better the best!

Please - on behalf of the other 'serious teams' let us compare apples with apples and not apples with pit crew!

Cheers

I will take it that my post was the one that you consider a "fluff fuck answer" and I am a little disheartened that is all you make of it.

I believe we,the GTC,have the most reliable Alpha ranking in the world - in Trackpoints.

"compare apples with apples" - Doppler..
a very reasonable request and
it is unlikely to make much of a difference to our end result.

For Doppler results to be so much of an issue I see this heading in the development of the individual ranking ...but that is probably where GTC was always going to end up.

Cheers Shelby - sounds like we are heading in the same direction - re your response - I just didn't understand it [no offence intended].

I'm confident it will always be a team challenge!

We (SRM) and many other teams choose the more conservative method (doppler) simply because it gives us more confidence that the data we are posting is less likely to be inflated. Thats in the spirit of the challenge as clearly outlined by Nebs (above).

If you guys choose to post trackpoints when you have doppler available, thats fine, but as a consequence you are choosing to play a different, easier game to the rest of us.

In the end it doesnt really matter unless your relatively inflated speeds affect the points Yell

So Johnny takes the prize even though he knows he was probably beaten in the real game. And Johnny finds the prize doesnt taste so good.
