Mineral (3706km): No play time for couple of months, today was a wake up call, its hard going in winter Bet this old tired arse going to be sore tomorrow On and off gust at Lucky Bay, JP 110 Loft 6.6 on a Choco 33 weed fin.
Hardpole (5685km): Lucky bay - first proper run with the isonic 95 - definitely need a better fin, it was the limiting factor today I think. 6.2 Expression (out of storage from a few years ago) - too big but once I moved the boom up and gave it some more outhaul it wasnt backwinding quite as violently.
nebbian (8209km): What a fantastic day's sailing! iSonic 94, Loft Blade 5.6, MFC Weebdurner 29cm. Got down there at 10:30 to see the usual suspects lined up, contemplating the universe and that eternal question, "What size should I rig?" There's a good question for Gestalt to plug into Wolfram I think Decided to play it safe and put up the smaller 5.6, which turned out to be the right choice. The wind picked up, and I was a happy little nebbian for the next few hours Over the other side I'd just gybed, and saw what looked for all the world like a big white cruise liner materialise on the horizon, and then just as quickly disappear. wtf? It took me a while to realise that it was the biggest splash I'd ever seen... couple of k's later and I saw a head standing up where the splash was, so he was OK, I worked upwind to find a very rattled Elmo wading his gear back to shore. I sailed back to raise the alarm and get someone out to pick him up, I'm glad that nothing important was broken. That was the biggest splash I've ever seen... very very impressive! Had a ball chasing Lao Shi, Evets, Snides and Bender around the estuary, as well as trying some laydown gybes over in the flat stuff on the other side. First time I'd done some laydowns, they really make you lean into the corner and tighten the arc. A couple of times I found myself mid-gybe, looking back at the wake making a nice smooth arc, thinking that this world is a fantastic place to be alive in Last gybe I did what I think is the best one I've ever done, I hit a gust just as I tipped it in, and just accelerated what felt like all the way round! Min speed was 15.6 knots which is damn quick for me, I yelled and hooted and screamed all the way back to shore Pity the proximity was 105 metres, otherwise I would have smashed my PB into tiny little pieces! All in all one of the best sails I've had in ages. Fantastic to catch up with crew I hadn't seen for a while, and a great day on the water. Oh, and cheers Benny

Chris Porter (8173km): Awesome session at Melville! The lack of wind lately has finally driven me crazy and there was no chance I would rig too small or not push it today. Inspired by Robby Naish's clip on windsurf journal I drank my can of HTFU and pushed my boundaries. Had a great time doing it too. Jem got a couple of picks of the action... Was also great to share the blast with Jemma who was displaying great gusto holding onto the 4.8 through the 25 + gusts. I played with the idea of a wave session at Crazies afterwards, but was just too tired. Took some shots of the guys going big, and even spied Team Pinna's Marcel in his Kamikazee camoflage. lao shi (27489km): What a day! Thanks to nebbs for suggesting the trip. Top call. Got down to see a few of the locals fanging around one minute and then slogging the next. Longest rigging ever ensued with not much enthusiasm to be seen. Went out as the wind kicked in and just got an hour in before a brief gap. Came in for some sustenance and then chased Nebbs around the estuary. Some big bullets coming through but great bear aways through the troughs. Thighs completely burning at the end of each run. Some good Nmiles to be had ruunning down to the middle of the run hanging on for grim death. Got a 27.81 square to the wind. Good alphas to be had too but commitment needed. Happy with the 22.5 Koncept shredded the leach so must have been windy. Could easily have used the 5m but was not confident of the wind staying in. Thanks for the sacrifice Hardie How consistent am I? two separate hours at 22.07knots!!!!! Rather tired now. Great to catch up with a bunch of the crew. Hope Alby gets better soon. That is the most complete boom destruction I have ever seen. Koncept 5.8, JP84Slalom II, 29cm elmo weedy. |
