Zaboric, 25-30, chopy, south-southeast wind, iSonic 94, NP Slalom 6,2 (first half hour on iSomic 111 and 7,8)

Well, good session with Pierre. I think this is my best results on chopy conditions ever - jugo (south wind) always do this. But, for change, I let my self go downwind, over the chop... All in all, good (except bump on my head - mast hit me in one turn, prity hard and painfull...)

although the forecast seemed very promising, the reality has been different:

SSE wind, varying from S to E and back, completely unstable (2-20 knots), but still ok to test my new gbt-31 and my new fin select RS 7.

with both I am more than satiesfied: the bgt works as easy as taking a piss (and you don't even need to shake at the end!) - the fin works perfect for me (and my weight - 110 kgs) on my falcon 104 in combination with my 8.0 sail (gunsails booster).

the size of 41 cm might be a little bit big and is certainly not the pefect one for the ultimate highscore in speed, but as my homespot (postira) has quite strong currents i need a very good upwind performance. another advantage of a longer (bigger) fin is the fact that it gets me planing erlier!

greetings from croatias most beautiful island

Choppy and gusty south wind round the corner on the northern shore of island Hvar.

S-Type126 with RS Slalom 8,4 did ok.

Nice session, Zoran congrats on PBs...

Eightbft.. good effort. Do you have some good speed spots on Brac?

Adi, good score for chop, you are improving by every session :)..

Helmet is always a good option, but last time when we where in Karin, I have chosen not to wear it and the conditions were pretty extreme. So it is a question of personal choice. Mine is very good, light and strong, and it was not too expensive, 50 EUR. The manufacturer is Gath, check it out..

@marin: I have a helmet. In the car, as usual... Wink Well, bro, we will have to push if we want to beat Pierre and Peka results from today...

Zoran and 8bf:  good scores, congrat on PB's, keep it going...

@ marin

yes, it is called povlja (ask warrior, he has been there)!

works perfectly with northern winds (bura), which regularily reach 50-65 kts!

the only disadvantage there is: it is a little bit choppy!

Wink

@ DS-Cres

i agree with marin, gath is definitely "the" brand for helmets - but i think protec is a fine option, too (especially if you would like to have an option for fixing a helmet cam on it).

in fact, any wakeboard or skateboard helmet will do it, although none of them have a face protection (like on american football helmets)!

@Bro.. see you tommorow in Karin.. and we are pushing to the limits, ok Yell? and beyond Laughing...

@eightbft.. I know that Povlja is great wave spot and that it offers nuclear winds :P.. so you can also make speed runs there? Regarding helmets and face protection.. I think that windsurfing helmets are without it for a reason. It could very easily twist your neck if you wipe out hard and let's say hit the boom or mast, and pretty easy break your neck also. I think that the broken nose is better :P...

@ marin & warrior

with povlja - that was just a joke of course!

no way to get any speed there! well - yes, for about 30 metres, but when you hit the first ramp/wave: its like a ticket to the moon!

with brac we have the problem that -depending on the wind direction- with stronger winds you'll get either big waves (bura e.g. is blowing onshore) or you don't get constant winds due to the geography (hills and no flat land area).

jugo in general is the best option for speed, as you don't get to big waves, or they are just smooth. in combination with the ideal wind direction (when jugo is blowing straight down the brac channel: ESE)... or maestral, when its more westernly (WSW) are ideal!

but that happens twice a year ... and on these days i have to work!

this is my yesterdays session:

postira2009-08-03

started with ESE wind (up and down) which would be ideal to get the best score, but then the wind dropped and i started the "postira windsurf triatlon" (planing-floating-swimming - lines in the centre). the wind direction turen to SSE and fortunately raised again a bit so i could plan upwind home.
