lao shi (27489km): Distance mission. Melville Started with the first 30k on the Battleship and 7.5 Koncept. Some great runs over to Nedlands and then the wind kicked in more than I expected. Last run in to the beach was totally out of control. Peak of 27.7. Changed down to JP84 and Warp 6.3 for another 30k including a run to Wallyworld to see if Chris was there. Peak 31ish. Nautical mile on the way back. Swapped pointer for 28cm elmo weedy and had an immediate speed increase and peak of 34.78 down the bar. Good to have a few runs with Pointman and meet up with Windxtasy and the Southsiders.
Windxtasy (2881km): My first session with my own GPS. The first of many. Still learning how to use it. Sebreeze said 20-25 knots gusting 22-27. I don't think it was that strong at Melville. 5.3 KA Kult, started with 74L tabou, didn't feel balanced, changed to 85 L Sonic which was much better. Weedfin.
Hardpole (5685km): Got to Pt Walter late (4PM) after family lunch. Thought maybe the rack of lamb and cheesecake will work like a weight vest. But it didnt, after first hour started to feel OK. Saw Chris with a broken boom, he was leaving as I arrived. Having trouble getting upwind on the CA, probably just technique. CA Sp53, choco 27 weedy, Koncept 5.8 - new GT31 as the old one died yesterday. By the end of the session was getting the hang of carving the CA, might try moving the footstraps (they are in the back position) and see if that helps with getting upwind. Hope you get some distance backup, just couldnt resist trying the new board out
Pointman (8480km): Nice strong seabreeze at Melville, around 20 - 25K. Well powered on the Futura 111 + 7.0 TR5 + 40 Talon. In fact I was over-cooked in the gusts and probably would've been more comfortable on the 93 S-Type, but I wasn't expecting it to be so windy and left it at home. Pleased with these speeds on the larger board. Stayed well downwind of the bank, cos with 40cm of fin I wasn't game to go too shallow. Chased Mark around for a while, and he was still tearing it up when I left. Sorry I couldn't offer up more kays mate...it was my turn to cook dinner and I was home by 6. Nice speeds Hardpole, bet you're gonna love the new CA! Welcome to the fray Anita, good to see you posting. And super effort on the distance Mark, it was pretty tough going in the chop out back today.

Chris Porter (8173km): Headed to Pt Walter for a cruisy session... limped home after my fastest crash ever. I was just getting keen after seeing Yoyo and Whitey (on a 25 year old board) both hit 37+ knots on their first run. I finally lined up a good gust through the flat stuff and started to take off (peaked at 36). The gust must have been just too much for my failing boom which snapped during acceleration. Next thing I knew I was bouncing across the water, first bounce slowed me to 32 knots and then the second got me down to 16. Despite bouncing it still felt like hitting a brick wall. At home today with bruised ribs (fingers crossed) and a mighty sore neck. An impact vest might be my next purchase after a new boom. CA SP47; Stealth 6.4; FO Weedster 260 Well done all on the PB's! What did I tell you Jeff! |
