Great sail at Area45. What looked like a waste of a day first, turned out to be a really good day with Evan (with wife Sue), Drift, Ian (from IWC) and later Moondo. After the rain eased around 1pm went out first with the big board and the beast at way less than 15 kts, but it picked up nicely and in the end had some good runs down the channel. The big board was soon a limiting factor, so changed to the Rocket and 30 mins later the beast (7.5 V8) was more than a handful. So changed to the Hellcat and kept going all afternoon with that setup. Took advice from Drift to try the channel to the left (looking from the starting point) and found some real good smooth runs whilst the sandbank was still visable. Got choppy in the end though but still fun, practicing gybing. Area45 is a nice spot (as long you know where the shallow spots are...which I learned the hard way)

A few spectacular stacks most of them due to lack of H2O under the board. One right next to Drift when I entered the gybe and mistook his stance in the water as clearance (he was sitting down in the sand Surprised), when he got up ...ooohh sh!t, too late. (captured on video I think, can't wait to see the footage, which I may share...or not). Area45 is a really nice spot (as long you know where the shallow spots are...which I happened to learn the hard way). But I'm back soon.

Went up to Yarrawonga with the family camping and took up the long boards. Had 18 - 22 knots and reasonably flat water.

Looked like you were doing really well out there today Juergen! Glad you enjoyed the day and the wind picked up. I also thought it may have been a waste of a trip down but it worked out well. Sorry, no gps data to post today.

Nice speeds. You will have to let me know where teh shallow spots are. Hate to hit them at speed.

Looking at the tracks all of my fast 4 sections were in the channel to the left  (or right on the Google image). This is the spot to let go in E. Will pass image on via email.

..and yes THE stack is on cam, will edit and post on youtube, so funny!

Hope your toe is ok Evan, put some ice on, it's blowing in the bay tomorrow.

Wel done Juergen sounds like you made the correct call, can you get a Nautical mile run in at 45?

Juergen, please post a link to your video when it's up!

Think I'm going to have to play with the settings on the Hellcat a little. I may have under downhauled it on Sunday. Looks like it was hitting 20 knots and I guess a 6.7m sail is getting big in those conditions??? Very back handed/unstable. Usually the 6.5m Ezzy Freeride handles it fine. Was you 6.2m Hellcat about right for the conditions?

Great to finally JAK meet down @ Area 45.

Good day on the water although the peak low tide was probably about 10 cms too high.  The bank was mostly submerged for the whole day so the water wasn;t as smooth as it can be.  No complaints though.

JAK's rapid slow down (and stack) was a highlight!.  I was water starting by sitting on mud when he came flying towards me cutting inside myself and the mudspit.  I stood up to show that the water was just above knee height where I was, and heaps shalower where he was heading....too late!.  Nice stack and I actually heard the wind get taken out of his lungs!!

I had a disaster with the GPS.  My watercasing cracked as I was getting ready to go out.  I didn't really care too much because it looked like it was going to be a light wind cruise...but then the wind came in and I got a few good runs and then I was spitting chips!

No scores from me either..........

JMAN, Doug and I have thought about this....probably just a fraction short on a E-NE wind but after our session the week before on a SW I reckon its a possibility on a SSW.  Doug did a run down to Townsend Bluff from the boat ramp and I'd be guessing that is close to a NM.

Steve - The demo from SHQ. Just need to fine tune the rigging as they are a little different to the Ezzy's.

Hey Evan,

Im assuming you had a NP mast for the Hellcat?

Jerry, the runs at 45 appeared much longer to me compared to Angling Club, however you need to gybe once. The good thing is you can bear away on both tacks, kind of V shape around the sand spit dividing the two channels.

Next time I'm at SHQ I wil have chat with Paul or Luke to see if they are going to have H2 on demo. It would be worth while trying the V8 replacement. Maybe a 6.2.

I couldn't see the mud, was all murky in the area in particular where Drift sat in it to waterstart, he may have stirred it up a bitInnocent. Thought he was standing up to his hips in water, when he got up it was already too late and I was committed to the gybe. Well lots of fun and main thing no damage or injuries.

Jak, glad you have given Area 45 a try and have video footage to prove that Mick lead you astray!!Embarassed

I have done a ruler measurement on my computer screen of Area 45 on google maps for a NM run and the run to Townsend Bluff and the run across to the other side of the bay are both greater than a NM.  Excuse my crude skills but seeing they where well over a NM I am guessing we can get it.

Old Salty, I seriously think there was no intention, just my stupidity by being greedy squeezing the last centimeter out of a run.

Looking fwd to try the NM next time, I may bring an extra short fin though.Laughing

BTW Nothing wrong with a NeilPryde Hellcat.

Hey Matt,

Great to see your post with the Loooong raceboards.  Great speed and getting that board to turn around so you can measure an Alpha is a feat in itself.

Yeah, its great fun on those boards in a breeze. There isnt much of the 'long' left in the water though at that speed!!

We should have a 'Long Board Nostalgia Day' on a quite day, just for fun. I still have a 25 year old Fanatic Cobra, couldn't bring it over my heart to throw it out, extremly nice in light winds, but a turning cycle like Queen Mary.

Guys, just edited another clip from Area 45, this time without stackWink. You can see the chop comes in sideways and is very easy to manage. This would have been one of the faster runs I had later on Sunday.
