What happened to Steve & Doug's data??? How'd the van go Steve?

A very forgetful day for me.  Broke 2 harnesses and by the time I got back on the water the speed strip had turned to slop.  Despite the negatives it was another day out on the small board and I am slowly getting the idea about it.  Really needed the 30 cm fin at times but at other times the 36 was fine.  Have not checked my data - too embarrsing

Didn't get chance to upload last night, went out with the Russian for steaks at Hogs Breath last night. Too much food and drink, more food. Will post tonight. I had the Quad with the 4.7m and then the Flare 98. Top speed was only 27.27knots. But the location has promise for some fun speed and freestyle sailing.

The van went well, 6x boards and sails, fridge and bed. Have few little things to sort out, but its all up and running.

I can say the fridge was definitely working nicely, appreciated the ice cold 'Radler' after the session.

When is the Russian going to join?

The russian has gone soft and taken up bike riding. Thats what North sailor do I've been led to beleive.

But where do you buy your harness lines?

The lines did not break it was the actual harness.  The 3 plastic buckles broke and some stiching on one strap and one buckle broke.  Lost the connector between the main bar and harness as well.   It was a Prolimit - about 2 years old.  Not impressed by quality.  The other was a very old NP waist harness that I converted to sort of seat.  The bar floated but had a lever at each end of the bar that clamped teeth into the webbing.  Webbing broke either side of teeth as expected.  I semi expected that one.  Re: Speed.  Thanks but should have done better.  The speed strip was flat for about 1 - 2 hrs before the tide started running in and we had 12 inch slop to deal with running all directions.  By the time I struggled in and set up again *2 and got out it was all over for decent speeds.  My goal at the start of the day was to better 27 kts.  Funny I was not negative about the day in the end.  I think it was the realisation that I am starting to feel ok about sailing in 20 - 30 kt days

given you didn't hit the water til later....after the harness explosion....24 knots in that rough stuff is pretty decent!

We had it a lot smoother while you were  sorting out a new harness and I reckon by the time you got out it had got a bit lumpier.  My last few runs (ie just as you were heading out) were'nt at all smooth and comfortable..in fact I had the JP and fin totally out of the water on the way accross the channel.....Control was set to zero, chaos to 100%!

The thing is that you are 100% right...12 months ago, we would have sat under the verandah at the Angling Club and thought about going out...now, we're out there!!!

Goes to show how well I read a post. Sorry about that. Still, 24 knots is ok going.

Anyone out with the Go Pro's/camera's on Sunday?

Yeah, I had my little helmet camera on at the end. Unfortunately it was rather rough then and the camera must have moved after I fell in the water in those squalls, so the angle was a bit to high. I may have to look what footage I can use, I don't think it will be much.

Aaaah, if only I could've been there. At the moment I'm a still GPS short of a Speed Sailor. But I'm with you guys in spirit. Barracking from the sidelines!

BTW just looked at the tracks and all my five fastest runs last Sunday are coming in (westerly), and all my fastest runs on 7 March (easterly) are going out. Interesting also that Stephen's old yellow banana (Torquay 82L) was still good for 28.28 kts. Need to practice a little more with a small board.

I will have to try my old board again. As it has a tuttle fin I hav few speed options.

No problem, I will take it to the next sessions over 20knts. You may need to re-adjust the straps though as I have sailed it with booties.

BTW I'm looking into getting a 2nd hand board around the 85L, sort of cross over, good for bay but also fast for our speed sailing. Steve told me you are thinking selling a Kode?
