Queens Lake, NSW, AU

Sailed with Steve & Mark. Had a sore ankle so had to take it easy while sailing. At last we had some good gusts. Had a 6.7m up first and had to come in and change down to a 6 m. Had a fun Morning for a change.

IS 101 , 6.7 VGM, 6.0 VGM , 36 JP weed.

Jamie, I use to use a Select Eliminator Freeride weed fin before I bought a 36 JP Weed fin. Steve was the first of the crew to try the JP weed fins. He bought a JP 31 weed fin and used it on his , F2 105 ,JP X-cite & I-sonic 94. His tops speeds picked by 2 knots. I when bought a 36 JP weed for my I-sonic 122. I use the JP 36 weed on the IS 122 with a 7.5 VGM & 6.7 VGM. Makes the board (once on the plane) go faster plus stays on the plane longer ( when wind dies out ) than the 32 EF weed fin. My top speeds have increased by about 2 knots. On both my I-sonics 122 & 101 the 36 JP weed fin makes the boards point up wind extremely well for a board with out a centre board. I would rate it 9 out of 10 on my boards for up wind performance. I have only had 2 spinouts on my IS 122 using the JP 36 weed fin since December last year when I bought the fin. I have sail over 1,000 Kms with it so far.On the IS 101 (this session) it was really good with the 6.7m VGM until the gusts were getting up over 25 knots. It was starting to lift the board up to much in the gusts. Some gusts were over 30 knots. I then went in and changed down to a 6m VGM. I think I will get a 31 JP Weed for the IS 101. We found to that there is not much of a choice of weed fins that have an angle of 45 degrees. Any weed fins above 45 degrees pick up the weed on the lake where we sail. Hope this helps out Jamie.

Thanks for the info Mark,

I currently have a 30 select freeride weedie that seems good on my smaller sails (Koncepts 5 and 5.8) but just doesn't have enough lift for my NP RS4 6.7, I will look into the jp's but was also keen on the chocos and mfc as well. I did have a a 32 select weedie as well but it bloody fell out in the surf never to be seen again it was way more powerfull than the 30, the selects are still good speed wise as I have a top of 37.33 with the 30 weedie but is only just 29 long now after a few bangs and file downs. I have found over summer i have used weedies 90% time, in the lake is a must and the sea seems to have floating weed all the time lately.
