Here's the reason.

WK Marina lake is about 800m long and 150-200m wide. WHen the wind is broad as with this session it's nigh on impossible to run the speed course, gybe at the end and get back up wind. We normally have to walk halfway back up and then sail to the start point at the northern end.

An NM would require about 4/5 gybes and some hard to wind beating , therefore not really practical.

1 hrs and distance will also be difficult to attain a reasonable result.

Bender, I think you may need to take Howards reply with a pinch of salt, West Kirby must be one of the best places on the planet for alphas! NM max 2 gybes if you set out to do one.

I'll be back at the Kirb soon and get the warriors a  little more disciplined ... I think the appearance of mr. elusive westerly flow must have caused a temporary lapse in memory.

If the wind comes over the speed wall close to square it is possible to sail the entire length, pull off a nice fast gybe in flat water and sail back up "beam reaching" and pull off a half decent NM.

When the wind is broad ... NO Chance! 

First you'd be gybing in mega tsunami chop at the end of the run, then have to beat back up the lake in big chop on speed kit well overpowered, with kit that's tuned for max speeds when broad. You probably only make it over to the leeward wall about halfway up. There you would be confronted with 1m+ confused chop coming into the prom wall and bouncing back off it (reflective chop)  Not nice .. I've been stuck over there a couple of times and it aint nice.  Wave kit territory.

So wihen the wind is broad 125 degrees + on starboard (west - wnw) its way way easier to jump off at the end of the run walk halfway back up the speed wall,  and have a relatively easy sail back up wiind to the starting area.

What my esteemed shipmate pointed out above stands true when the wind is tight or square.
