Arrived at Pt Chev about 2 1/2 hours before low water to find a few people out on what looked like 7.5 or 8m and nobody planing so rigged big. Spent 1/2 hour or so underpowered planing in the puffs before another 1/2 hour of comfortable sailing as the wind continued to build. Then a couple of hours way overpowered trying to keep everything under control and wishing I was on smaller gear. Would have been easier sailing on the Pt Chev side in lighter wind. Low tide and all the sand bars ( I found some new ones) forced me to sail in the gap between the end of Pt Chev and Kauri Pt where it was considerably windier and rougher as the wind funnels between the land.
