Afternoon off work and see Pete on 4.5m, 3 others out and 2 rigging in car park. Rigged 4.7m and sea off Dip big messy chop so tried Golf where it was very nice rolling surf. Had good hour there and headed back. Wind increased so flattened sail, and took GPS off before it was ripped off; some crashes but sails survived. Few more turned up wind increased so 5 set off for Levington. I'd already rigged 4.2m so stayed with that. Nice for a while then wind a bit up and down; tired with a cold.

Only used GPS for first bit as interested in speed on a wave board in a big sea. Thought it might get washed off in waves to took off.

The first time that I have sailed the Ray in a southerly. As expected, the western course is very square and allows for runs up to about 2.5Km. I went with the intention of getting a good 1 hour result and added over 4 knots to my PB, despite stopping to adjust my kit a few times! I also improved on my previous alpha racing PB by about half a knot but some faster ones would have been possible had I tightened my gybes slightly. All in all today was a lot of fun. It was nice to sail with Ian, Pete, Stephen and the other local speedies.

Spot / Conditions: The Ray (Southend, UK), 15 knots gusting 25 knots
Kit: JP Slalom V 54, 6.2m NP RS:Slalom MK II, Tectonics Falcon F1 28
Tech Details: Navi GT-31 V1.3 (B1123t), GPSResults v6.90, Doppler, Cubic Spline.

Good day at the Ray for me went there to improve my One hour -Alfa and distance - And got 3 PB's !! well happy with that - took my old Axis 92  easy to sail and jibes nice lovely old tool. nice crowd there - very enjoyable day  -
used 6.3 Simmer - nice sail - but could have done with little more power sometimes .I would have liked to get a few more miles

in ( be nice to beat 'Normski'  )  but run out of time with tide coming in it got big chop - run aground trying to get to flatter water and  had a big catapult crash near the end of session --

1ST in the Ledgend group at the moment Surprised

Funny day really the southerly wind being too square for really fast speeds and the the wind was up and down.I tried for a fast hour and alpha but once again my gybing let me down :( and it was done in the patchiest wind so spent too much time floundering even with a big board and sail !!! You also had to fight to stay in the flat water on the west course and it seemed odd to be getting your fastest speeds going the wrong way up the course !!! with the east course not working at all.It was good to met up with so many sailors and the course was busy !!! so it's back to the drawing board if I am ever going to improve my hour and alpha,s !!! gybe practice !!!!!
