DETAILS: I really should have gone to work today but the wind look too good. Arrived at the Inlet at the peak of high tide. The strip was messy with no flat water to be had. Rigged small and went out and the first few runs were truly awful. The sail felt flat and the board was not quite right. I made a few tweaks, namely boom height and harness lines and began to get a more balance feel. I realised I've never really had a good session with the 5.3...I suspect its because its a lot smaller than I'm used to and it is certainly something I've become aware of. The tide started to go out and the strip came alive. With the flatter water the board and rig began to respond.
A nice morning session with a few big rain squalls. On one of them I clocked a 28.83 and was pretty happy with that in the conditions that were presented. After lunch Rob and I hit the water again but the wind had shifted more Westerly. After a few more runs I decided to call it a day. As I was packing up Richie rocked up. It would be extremely uncouth to let him sail alone so I re rigged (this time the 5.9 and supersport). First run out I managed to snap the mast base. Not at the Uni but at the pin. I swam the board and rig in and luckily I had a replacement. Started lining up the "slingshot" run except this time I used the Red mark closer towards the boat ramp. This lead to some great quick burst runs but the top speed came on my second last run. Timed it just right and got a gust as I beared off around the mark and had a steaming run down to the hump. Pulled up just before the sandbar but It was getting diabolically shallow. An awesome day..heaps better than working!
