Fun day at the PiT! Laughing

25 knots SW which is a good angle for the mission but it swung around a bit and eased back to 20 knots every now and then which was a bit frustrating.

Mission was 1 hr and NM.

1 hr mission went pretty well, although I was hoping for slightly more. Two consecutive Gybe crashes at exactly half way didn't help. Cry

For the NM I tried running across the shallows at high tide through the slightly deeper gutter in the middle a couple of times. Chop was scary at the start and speed was good in the low 30's but I miscalculated the distance and pulled up a few 100m short both times. Note to self.......

Best NM ended up one using Mal Faulkners strategy to run the first half of the speed course and then head out into the centre of the channel and past the sand dunes as far as possible. Unfortunately the wind died a bit at the end of both runs but one was the best posted here. Smile

Tried for a few Alpha 500's and was quite optimistic that I may have got close to my PB, but when the data dropped it was quite a way off. Frown I think I need to polish up my gybe exit speed for the next attempt.

Used 2011 5m KA Koncept all day and it performed brilliantly. Alternated between CA50 with 25cm Lessacher speed weed Duo and IS87 with 28cm Lessacher Speed Weed Duo. Both performed excellently! Best NM and Hour were on the CA combo which was slightly faster in top speeds but a bit slower on accelleration and harder to drive upwind. Alpha was on the Isonic 87 combo.

It will be interesting to see Craigs post. I think his figures should be very close to mine which will make the monthly points to date VERY CLOSE!!!! Laughing

Oh sooooo close. Yes it was a 1 hr and Nm mission day and we got so close. Started early with the 5.8 sticky taped back together but i forgot to notice that the main batten had been snaped as well. The sail felt very soggy, fine in the gusts though. Got through the first 1 hr. Smile Rigged the 6.6,max down haul with a little more outhaul than i normaly use for the second 1 hr. The venom 30 was a little small for this combo but it was all i had. Chased Daffy around for an hr or 2 and had one very lucky sailor go into the bank with Daffy on one side and me on the other. Missed him by "That much" I didn,t see him untill he passed across the front of Daffy. He did even see us untill we went past. Surprised Warning this man drives in Victoria. Went for another 1 hr after Pete and Daffy retired and broke another boom 1/2 hr into what could have been a Pb. 24.03kt for 30 mins. No more booms, time to pack up and go home.

Nice day at the PiT with a reduced team - lots of members absent - but fun hooning around with Kato, Daffy, Mal, and for a short while Tom, still with recovering hand. Set off after Daffy and Craig to do a good 1hr - after seeing Daffy drop two gybes in front of me (most unusual!) I then caught the bug and broke my good run and dropped four gybes over the l hr. Note to self: learn to gybe more consistently. Anyway, still improved my PB and good to push the alpha up a bit. Spent most of the day on my JP slalom 84L with 5.0m 2011 Koncept but it was underfinned with a 23cm KA assy. Second note to self: buy a 32cm venom! Also did a few runs on the speed board: Lorch Div S 63L with 19cm C3 Slingshot and 5.8m 2011 Koncept, but despite a fairly smooth course not enough ooomph in the wind.

Long day - up at 5.15, out the door at 6am, arrived at PiT at 8am to find Daffy and Craig waiting for the tide to drop. A bit bloody cold for a mid summer day - 10oC on arrival. Sun came out though as did the crowds. Busy for a while with lots of happy windsurfers blasting up and down, a couple of kites and the inevitable fishos who insist on going part way down the speed run then casting a line! Left Daffy's at 4.40pm and back home just before 7pm.

Forgot to add - great effort Daffy and Kato to put us first equal! Shame the boom broke Craig or you would probably have clocked up enough km's to pip the Tasmaniacs on distance.
