Safety Bay, WA, AU rigged a severne overdrive 6.0 on an rrd x-fire 90. the max display on the gps was 35.06 so i was pretty bummed to get downgraded to 32.3. wished i had the CA40 with me although, the x-fire was feeling pretty good.

Isonic 86/ C art 49, Overdrive 6.5, Fo 30/ F1 26

Started out on the Iso to trim the sail before doing some tuning on the 49.

C art 49 quite surprising and looks like it has alot of potential when I find some nice flat water and fully power it upCool

Melville Beach, WA, AU

Nice gusty day at melville. Tide was good and got pbs for a sail above 7mtrs

felt a bit wild on some of the gusts. Not the right fin I think ....or maybe too much sail!

hi, mark i'm pretty sure it wasn't a spike because i did lots of other max speeds where similar to that. my dad, who was watching was saying to me that i was getting brief bursts of speed. i have now got some 32' lines to try and get some more stability out of my stance. if you still want to look at my file i can send it to you if you really want. btw, at melville on the cyclone day there was a baldy man that came up to me and told me to widen my harness lines, whenever i see him next i'm going to give him a very firm pat on the shoulder, that single tip has improved my speed  so much it was like it was the one piece of the jigsaw missing, i can't wait for a windy day when i can get the c-art 40 out on my 5.4, because i am know totally confident i am gonna get some huge numbers

JC2, How wide apart did you set the harness lines? Interested to compare to how mine are set (although I also need to change my 26" lines for some longer ones too - maybe 30")

JC interesting about spreading the harness lines apart. General width seems to be a hands width, maybe a bit more. What were yours before ?

Old school style does work

When I was about 14 I went to the speed trails at woodies (you know the ones with radar guns back in the 80s)

Old freddy hayward showed me and my equally keen mates to try using our harness lines like him. I still use his technique to this day and even though no-one else does................ It works for me

I have my lines 2 handwidths apart at least and when you pull out harness lines straight, holding onto the boom between your harness lines,  .they should reach to the inside of your elbow

Long and wide = balance= better speed

i went from my harness lines bieng very close together, around four fingers or less between them. they are now around a hand and a half. widening the harness lines just makes the sail more stable especially when its choppy, and the sail bieng more stable encourages you to commit more weight to the harness (in my case). i wouldn't personally go any wider than two hands width because i start losing a lot of feel in the sail. diablo you definately want to go longer than 26', having longer lines just means you can use your weight more effectively whilst keeping the sail more upright. i find longer lines make the most difference going down-wind. when you first start using long lines it will probably feel quite uncomfortable, paticilarly upwind but you soon get used to them as your stance changes more to suit them. the only time having your lines close together is good is in waves as it alows you total feel over the sail to get planing early but it is less stable.
