Brad Cawthorne (5905km): Wind was up and down, like 3 knots to almost 30. Had to run deep off the sand bank and got into chop really quick. Chopp coming from two different directions. Hellcat 5.2, venom 32, AB+ 95L The Grand, Southport, QLD, AU
Boombuster (20155km): Victoria Point, QLD, AU Was hopping to get a 35kts run so happy with a 36 but boy i'm unfit due to the lack of wind 3 or 4 weeks of no wind makes it hard to be fit for sailing. Good wind once a month is not enough to keep fit my 1st run over the the speed bank I spun out corrected it then went over the next swell dug the nose in went over the front but sail went in clew 1st sinking the sail the spent about 5 to 10min getting back up. After that I was puffed but sailed on but wind got to strong so didn't do big K today. Got into trouble with Pierre I cut him off he said I said sorry hope you still love me mate. phil (16478km): Couldnt get away from work during the day but just had to try. Got in after five at the grand. Really on/off and spent too long in the wate rat shark feeding time so got out after 1 hour. Well done Brad-cant have been too bad in the morning to get those PB's CASP50, Blade 6.3, Tect 26 The Grand, Southport, QLD, AU
ODIN (24578km): Went ot VP Bank early morning to meet up with some of the crew and didnt look that inviting to go for a speed sail , mind you the forecast is to be 30 to 35kts and that was supposed to come through the night unfortunatly not here... So the crew talked me into go for a sail with them but the problem was the direction was too SE which made the bank dead tight and very gusty not quite fun a a 44 wide board "hard work".... All up i did 8 bare offs and managed to squeeze 2- 40+kt runs and the 10sec was just too short every run had to bare away from the bank and hitting into some nasty chop which was a bit hard to controll to slow down , not a very good session if only the wind shifted to the South would have had a bit more flat water and better 10sec runs..... After the tide started to rise the bank was not that good anymore and getting way to gusty and choppy so got back derigged and went to the other side of thompsons and had a windmeter reading of 30 to 36kts typicall for the wind to pick up and stay consistant when there is no where else to speed sail Then again very happy with the 6.2 considering the gusty conditions still keeping the 10sec average up...... Fin worked very well through the messy stuff and very good lock n load feeling... Was thinking about going to burrum but the low tide was too early in the morning and for sure the wind did not kick in at that time... Should have went to the train i think it would have been a cracker at least there is dead flat water 250m long.....

P.S - decided to go with Mark to the train on the Goldcoast in the arvo and was hopeing to get the speed runs along the bank but it was to broad so we decided to do the runs above the bank between anthor bank so the top half of the bank was only about 70m long and from there was a good bear off down wind and the chop was not too bad as you got down further.. So you could have done portack or starboard runs , but the starboard run was much better "flat water" why i didnt see this before ,mark pointed it out for me but it got to late to give it some more good shots at it due to the tide getting to low... But the runs were maxed out around the 200m mark thats all we could get out of it , just making it a bit slower for the 10sec run , but i tried for a bit longer distance , but the wind wasnt always fullfilling through the run and then again a bit gusty to but not to bad , i actually enjoyed this session here.. I managed to hook on a good consistant gust which brought up my 39kt run which was quite a surprise to me for the short distance to sail in.. But then again there wasa difference in all the 2sec compared to the 10sec runs... Again the 6.2 was a machine it really suxs in the gusts and also the 32cm sonntag really held its ground in totall controll. Would have taken out the speeddboard but i would have dregde more than sailed due to the gustiness... My times were 2sec-39.22 and 5by 10sec -36.55

RIGGS (4886km): Got down to vici early and it didn't look that good, so waited around for a while and decided to go out. Wind was much more out there and was over cooked on the 6.3 even would have been a struggle on the 5.6 today. Not able to gybe or lock in, was constantly sheeting out. Crossing the channel i had to unhook several times. Got about 30min and had to come in to go to work. exocet 80L, 30cm venom, blade 6.3 |
