25 (7387km): More Beaver! 2012 KA Koncept 6.6, 2008 F2 SXS, Finworks 11.5" weed [circa 1996] refoiled. Tide was better than yesterday but not as much punch in the wind while I was there. Off the water just after 4 for family comittments. Looks like the wind might have booted a bit and steadied so expect some good times to come. Lots of crew out on the run and a good vibe all round - also cooperative kiters which is appreciated.
Recycle (10709km): Woodman Point with ado and jj with late apperance by darryl and slow one (really like the look o the new rs racing e4s slowies just unwraped, any body got some second hand ones they want to sell) used 6.2 & ca 52 then iso86 &6.7 when wind dropped
Snides (18313km): Pelican Point, WA, AU after work sail nice to get out late. the wind looked perfect for the new evo4 7.0 but it soon died as i tacked half way up to faeceville where surprise, surprise the wind was in full vacumn mode.... loving the new version of the evo..i had my doubts that they had sorted out the problem with the twist and too much lower leach tension, but on the 7.0(the only evo 4 i have) it seems to be sorted now. the sail has an additional vertical luff panel which seems to keep the draft locked further forward and also appears to improve the cam rotation. with the slightly lower tension mid leach the integrated clew setup seems to now move/flex better in the gusts which i never noticed on the evo 3. the wind backed off big time and i had to pump and schlog back to peli. nice arvo in any case.
Slowboat (25967km): Beaver first. Rigged for wind that never came... 6.2m Mistral 91 and 23 asy. PD got his run of the day as I was sailing out and it was apparently all downhill from there (the other guys also reporting a drop in speeds). The wind seemed to ease but I kept hitting 37s. Eventually (11th run) I got a small bit of a gust and broke the 37 cycle with a 39 on the dial at 4:09 pm. Run 13 was a 38, then the wind started to fade again so I opted to try woodies as a backup plan on the way home. Got there to see Daz heading out on a 7.0 with norts on 6.7m and Ado finishing up after struggling on small gear. Apparently the wind backed off at woodies too. Rigged the 7.8m EIV to see if I could use it in speed mode on the small board and fin. I didnt expect it to work. But it did! Felt great compared to other big sails I've tried on small boards. 23 asy was no problems. Got a 35.6 threading the needles (kiters and ws freestylers everywhere!). I think the EIV 7.8m is gold. I cant wait to see how fast it goes. Feels like it has the speed of the EIIs with the power and stability of the EIIIs. Wicked combo.
Chris Adamson (11668km): I stuffed this session up in the garage at home when I only threw my 5.7 in the car, thinking it was 6.3. I arrived at Woodies and realised this when I rolled it out, so with the breeze only around 20 knots I opted to stick the 5.7 on the JP45 speed board and just have a cruisy underpowered freesail, which was actually a lot of fun. I have only previously used this board on really windy, intense days so it was nice to carve some gybes and hit some ramps - just getting a bit more comfortable for when the next big day arrives. Leighton would have been perfect on 7.0 today! |
