Greenpark Huts on the new spot (Matts sandbar).

Short session and then a grovel home on the dying wind.

Mykz SL51 / MauiTR3 5.1 / Mykz 23cm/37deg fin

Under powered and under finned but nice runs.

Max wind gust on the Gebbies meter was 28 kts during the hour that we were on the sand bar.

Good wind speed/ board speed ratio for our area, so I reckon this place will be fast with good wind.

Got lost leading Dan up there and ran aground again and over the bars. Getting to be a habit, need a compass.

Roll on summer and a 35kt easterly!

ECAN say they are about to open the lake to the sea (began work June 1st) so may be the last session for a few months.

Lake ellesmere, greenpark huts. Isonic 44, overdrive 6.0, C3 venom 26. First time on the new bar(sorry it needs a better name). 35knots seemed very easy, no crap in the water, can run any line you like and flat, no rolling chop. Finally might of found our 40knot plus spot. More wind and watch out!!!!!

Amazing! I wouldn't have thought there was any wind anywhere today. Really does seem like you've found a perfect speed spot there. Supposed to be windy tomorrow, I'm thinking about trying the harbour, if I'm not put off by the cold.

Yes, it's amazing how much wind gets funneled through Gebbies pass.

The Gebbies Pass wind data on "weather underground" is dead on, which is handy.

We got there a bit late (noon) and it was dying off, it had been 33 kts at 10am.

The Harbour was 22 kts at the time so once again GPark is 50% up on the harbour.

May well see you at the harbour tomorrow.

Would there be enough water to sail in Dan?

Matt Dimock (kite man) is the man with the experience of the area and he reckons there may still be enough water for us even when the level has dropped. Dan's google map looks like it may be so. The water is deeper than where we sail by at least 10cms.

Matt was always saying that this spot was better than we were using, it just took us a while to sail up there and have a look.Slackers!

Waihora Ellesmere Trust» Blog Archive » Lake Level – update March 19th, 2012

This site gives info on the lake level. We need a level around 1.0m as a minimum ordinarily.

Well, it sounds very promising then, as long as small fins are in use!
