Wind came in around 9am,
It picked up around 10 am
It was 6.2 weather just after 11am Then it just got stronger
The radar gun came out at 12pm there was already carnage out there and the sand storm was diabolical.
After much fluffing around changing harness lines eventually hit the water, holy sheet it's a wee bit blowy sailed out toward the small island tried a gybe got almost all the way round when I got monstered by a gust over the bars and into the sail, hearing the "crack" knew there was a batten gone Arrrrggggghhhhhhhh good start, water started witht he bottom of the sail flapping around a bit, hit the run, a bit exciting on the way but smoothyed out nicley just past the gun, high 33 on the dial first run, oooooooooo nice.
Sailed back out straight into the chop, German gybed out the back and of into another run, woo hoo 36 on the dial, bit of fun though getting back to shore as it was very broad down the coarse and the shore went away from the line.
Back on shore quickly sorted out a new bottom batten and back into it, hmmm the wind seems to have picked up some.
The runs weren't going to bad a bit exciting bearing of as I was pretty much over done, had my first "Of" off the day when I went into the run out of shape managed to get it sorted then back on the power, not long after got hit by a bullet as i hit a bit of a ramp, front foot came out and dragged in the water, held it together for a bit before the inevitable happened, surfaced with my back foot still stuck in the strap and to find that Blair had a bugs view of the windshield coming to clean him up as I stopped a boards length away from him (thank goodness, as I didn't even see him).
The afternoon was just getting hairier and hairier, decided to flag it after fully leaning out on a run when a gust hit me turning the run into a laydown gybe/crash in an instant.
Memorable moments of the day.
Watching Issac, Daryl and Matt having their gear dialed and looking nice a smooth down the run. You guys were awesome
Watching John Norton go on run then get hit by a bullet sending him on a torpedo run aiming at the the large crayboat whilst trying to steer away.
Bender doing a run with the chopper behind him starts his bear away only to hit some chop and get the board launched about 2 foot out of the water, kept the power on chattering past the vans with a good 4-6" of air under his board, all the time with the Helicopter dead center behind him. Mate you were on it
Snides for his freestyle runs down the run.
Col and the chopper pilot for getting in that close and personal it looked like they were trying to trim the tops of peoples sails.
Thoughts go out to Isaac who was dominating the conditions all day till his misadventure, hope you recover well.
Huge thanks To Reg and the radar ladies for another top event
