iSonic 90, KA Koncept 5.8,  32cm Goldwing

I got a late pass today and was on the water at 12:30 and missed the best of the wind. It was still a solid 20 knots and bumpy, so I rigged the 5.8 and decided to head up to Kurnell. I thought I'd try for a good hour on the way back, but I kept stalling in the wind shadows behind Kurnell and Towra. Most of the hour result was just blasting out to the runway and back.

The wind was pretty light up at the kurnell sand bar so I couldn't really get any powered up bearaways, but the runs back were fun!

We saw plenty of sails heading south to hobart this afternoon too...

~20th boxing day sail in 24 years, ever since my very first windsurf at the age of 15.
It has become a 'personal tradition!'

Unfortunately  I  forgot my GPS darn it!

Sailed at the sailing club for about 3 hours on my Exoceet RS2, 32cm Nitro fin and 7.0 m² MauiSails TR6. Under powered at times, over powered at others, but only because I don't yet have an adjustable outhaul.

As I didn't have the GPS, I spent more time than normal tweaking setup. Thanks to Remi for organising the Maui-Sails training day with Phil McGain last week. I used some of the personal tips he gave and they really helped!

For example, I've always suffered spin-out, especially with this smaller 32cm fin. With Phil's tips, I left the front straps all the way back, but moved the rear strap forward one hole at a time... until they were all the way forward. Much less back foot pressure, and less tendancy to spin-out. Then I could also move the mast-track back, which made the board feel more lively, as if it were floating higher. Foot pressure was more evenly spread between the straps, and I didn't need to hold my front foot in with bent toes, so less strain. The only disadvantage is that I might need shorter lines as my 28-34" adjustables are a bit long with this new layout.

As far as speeds go, based on prior experience, I reackon I did;

Narrabeen Lake, NSW, AU

Another very late get out to a dying S to SSE to SE to S. Probably the gustiest wind Ive sailed in for a long time. Only made a bit better by the flat water under the sand banks. That was about it. Bloody horrible and hard work.

Tried a smaller sail on a bigger board due to the swirly wind but didnt feel right, it seemed too short in the boom and very off/on. Probably had the crap wind in mind!!!!!!!!

Falcon 121, Evo IV 7.0, 36 F/O weedster.

p.s. the wind at kurnell/sailing club was no-where near as consistent as the airport - if you believe the graphs.
