Huge Day at Low Head, 10+ boards on the water at times.

variable winds all day were frustrating but still a great day out

Drive past this place nearly every day of the week to work (Police Point, on the Huon River).  Always windy in a NW'er, a bit like Doran's the wind always seems to concentrate and funnel down the river.  Always looked pretty good for sailing, but never tried it, so today Steve and I went down and tried it out.

Pretty gusty, but windy, relatively flat and pretty much a fun place to sail.  Rigged the brand new Reflex4 7m on the iSonic 107 with a 40cm Sting II.  Wind looked to be coming through at up to 25 knots, with times when it was lighter.

On the water and the chop was really flat, like up at the top of Mortimer, or Doran's in the shallows.  Had limited time, so just concentrated on a 1hr.  Did my best top speed and NM on the last run of my 1 hr and then came in.

Had we have had more time, reckon we could have posted a faster 2-sec and NM.  Absolutely great place to sail.  Quite a few lulls.  I reckon if we did a downwinder here we could easily do a 25knot+ 1 hr (easy)!!

Some gusts coming through at well over 30 (literally starting to lift off)!  Too up and down for the 6.2 and the 86, but that would have been the gear to get some good speeds on.  Never-the-less, the combo I was on felt awesome and I reckon would have been able to do a few more knots on in the conditions we had.

Cannot wait to sail there again - will have to start taking my gear to work!!

Forgot to turn GPS off and did 1.5km of driving as part of my distance, but non of that contributed to me top speed or 5x10 as was going slow on windy road and realised pretty quick hadn't turned my GPS off, so haven't amended, but can if need be (won't change my post other than for distance).

Geoff and I arrived late as the wind died down but had a great time on the river with the big gear...

Really good fun sail with Dave in a new spot. Heaps of potental and cannot wait to go back there. We also checked out another new spot that could be really good for 2 sec and 5x10. Isonic 107, R4 7.0 and 40cm sting 2.

Tracks from sailing at Police Point.  NM was last run downwind a bit.  This area was super flat the whole way across, but a lot more gusty so not so good for the one hour.

Hi Russ, will do, wasn't sure whether it would be good or not, but ended up being great!!  Yes, think this is a new spot record worthy of mention, but I reckon there's a 40+ waiting to be had here with the smaller gear!!  I am going to start taking my gear to work ... Cool

Thanks for keeping an eye out Steve, we ended up biting the bullet and buying one off the shelf.....with the attached price tag I think we'll be swimming the last 100m in to shore to avoid knocking it around
