First strong Easterly this year!! Got down at dawn to meet Gary on his way home form LG. Watched the sun rise but the tide was already starting to rise as well. Gary kept going to Malacoota and I riged 5m and CA40 with Slingshot 19 for a run in the Boat Hole. Good practice for Luderitz: Stopping from 40 knots in about 30 meters before the dry sand! Wink

Best speed was just over 40 knots. Wind was NE to ENE at around 27-30 but gusting to high 30's

Had a few runs and packed up to come back later.

Back at 2pm and the tide was already quite low. Spotty and I walked the speed course and put sticks in to mark the shallow sand bars. Another good training exercise for luderitz as wel had to thread through a 3m wide gap it over 40 knots!

Very difficult to get good speeds up between the first two green bouys as it required the lucky gust. Further down one could bear off into the channel away from the bank but this was a bit hairy for me as you quite suddenly find yourself in big confused chop to max speed and slowing down without crashing becomes quite difficult. I watched Spotty do it quite a few times and he was smokin'. First one was a 46 knots peak! Spotty seems to be able to keep the board stable as he slow and turns and didn't have any obvious 'moments'.

Very happy with the peak speed of 42.93 on the east bank. Might be close to a PB there for me. After that the wind eased back to around 25kts and we were struggling to get started.

When I was rigging for the second session I noticed freeriders out on 3.6m and 3.7m sails!!

Sandy Point, Vic, AU, 46 Peak East Bank PB Koncept 5.4, Mistral SP47, Ka 21.5 Asym,  no wind in Melb' but was honking at the Pit and was itching to get on the 47 again since it's last outing at the Beaver.  Pegged out the shallow weed banks with Daffy and checked the depth paddling around.   The run in across the channel chop onto start of run felt right with a good gust....  But the fixed section through the sticks had us pinching a bit until the exit where you could bear off at a better angle into the channel chop and get a burst of speed. Ended the session fanging around on the Mistral 112L SL as the tide came in and clinched a few alphas's in the gusts as the wind died.

Heading North along East bank...

East Bank

Heading South towards same green marker...

Getting familiar with new gear is important LaughingThe 47 and I getting aquainted  watching the sunrise from the man caveTongue out

Well done Daff - you were right about the extra wind at the Pit - we had 1hour with 30 kts but the rest of the time was 15 - 20.  You have the Southerly Busters to thank for pitching you to the top of the table. Dan and Daz beat the SA demons on NM which pinched a point or two off them.  I like the training for the Aussie assault on Luderitz
