Windsurfing WA Twilight Slalom Series at Peli Pt. Great fun and a good turnout of 25 odd sailors with the seabreeze in the 15 - 22 range, perhaps with some stronger gusts earlier on. Used both 49 & 59 Tabou Mantas and KA Koncept 5.8 & 6.6 with a few diffferent fins. It was great to meet a couple of new team mates in JC & Nic.

Same race as chris A. First timer for the series but was really good fun and recommend it to all. Cmon free pizza and beer FFS!! how can you say no! 6.7 MKii, 94L and was hardly strapped for fin choice with the 30 or the 36 so went with the 30 and could manage about 88 degrees at best... also good to meet Dan and JC. Had a few run ins here and there on the course- its was like a balinese round-about out there at times!

Twilight sailing at Peli and had a blast. Great to meet some more of the SRM crew in Ado and Nic and some other people and actually did well in the racing. Thanks to the organisers for the event. Wind was great initially and died a little in last race around 7pm where Jesper and I couldn't make the last mark. Very, very pleased with my results, especially as that was my first figure 8 slalom race and given standard of fleet. Sure need to improve gybing around the marks !

Well that was fun...

Rigged up the 6.6m and thought I'd try to sneak 1 speed run in before the races started (took off during the briefing) but my personal lull followed me. I got back to see everyone on the way to the start. When I asked I heard the beeper go so put on the SL62 and attempted to join in. I could see the first guys rounding the mark so decided to take off downwind of the start line and DNS myself. The challenge was to at least not come last from more than a leg behind the leaders. Well I was DNS so it didnt matter any way.

Next race thought I'd be sneaky and gybe into the start. Oops. Headed in a bit early and ended up too far upwind stalled before the line. Big lull saw a few guys get off but most were not moving. Got going, and made it past a few guys on the first mark, then put the gas on to catch up some ground on the leaders. Just passing Hayds (in 4th I think) at 31kts going into the second mark and WHAM. I slammed into something heavy but soft. As I was flying through the air I saw my boom deflecting as it all loaded up, and then the harness line let go on one end. I got flung hard. Had a look around in the water but couldnt find the culprit. Maybe a plastic bag but felt more like a fish (I've hit a few of both). Then I saw my favourite ever slalom board Cry. It was badly hurt from the mast landing bullseye into the nose and slicing it down the centre. Not pretty.

So, fixed the harness line, and grabbed the SL55 in the dying wind since that was all I had left. Race 3...

Timed the start pretty well but there was a bit of bunching on the windward end. I was passing a few guys on the line when suddenly I got taken out by a rig from downwind (thanks stringer). Took a chunk out of my foot in the process. Recovered rig from water, got going and started the reeling in process... but could only manage a 6th place in that one after the dodgy start. Got my 2nd fastest run for the day passing Paul Y just before the finish line (32.6). The SL55 and the KA32 slalom fin is a dynamite combo.

Decided not to open up the cut on the foot and turn it into a festering mess so quit for the day.

Now I have a mission to try to repair the 62 without making it heavy in the nose... I'm sure it can be done. Poor little thing. I really hurt it today.

Great turnout for river slalom. Looking forward to the next one.
