SPENT MORE TIME RIGGING, DERIGGING AND WALKING BACK TO LUCKY BAY FROM POINT WALTER THAN I DID SAILING. DISPOINTING DAY CONSIDERING THE STRONG WINDS, ALBEIT GUSTY

Nice day at Melville. Very gusty to start with, but strong in the gusts. Decided to use small gear for a change to remind myself what it was like. So out with the 5.8m, and SP40. I got on the water in time for one or two gusts before the wind backed off. Kept sailing for 30 minutes on this combo before heading in for the 6.6m. Went back out with the SP44 and 6.6m with CL24A and had few more runs. Then the wind backed off even more so switched to the SP50 with a SL28 fin. Then the wind switched back on again so back to the SP44... The wind seemed to back off again so decided to call it quits. Came in and the wind picked up again so out with the 6.6m and SP40 for something different... but it was a bit too patchy by then. All up a really nice day for Melville. The tide was high so it wasnt as flat as it can be, but there were no sandbars to hit.

Great to see a few crew staying local. Nice work today Ado- was good to see the glow on your face at cracking a PB. 40 knots is not easy at Melville.

Arrived home from the family Moore River camping trip at about 11 - blown out Laughing on the last day!!

Emptied car - fed kids - loaded the Whirlpool - loaded car with different cargo - thought about Melville and Walter [both 5 minutes drive] but went to Hardies.

5.8 Koncept 08, CA SP47, 23 weed 45 degree.

Choppy but worth it - last quarter of mile was way out of control in mega gust and hell chop!! Claude going absolute machine mode - said 1 week was enough for Snides - I'm betting hour and distance will fall!

Was thinking melville but dropped in to check PW on the way and found yoyo all alone so joined him. he got mre by .3kntFrowndid a few runs on the on the CA44, but the gusty conditions made it difficult so switched to the trust old Sonic w52 and had a ball !

to many people to congratulation so well done all!!!

awesome day at hardies got to use the 5.0 for the first time in ages...The machine out to chase down the distance pb...and he should of killed it!!! well done in advance claude!!!  those figures should give us a great start for the monthTongue out

1 st run had the boom inhaul snap leaving me with a boom waving about in my hands at 34kn managed to coast into shore and put some spare rope on...took off and  300 odd meters later the boom snapped thru! manged to sail most of the way back holding it together.

wind was 20 to 30 pretty much the perfect day for Claude and other crew to crank out some clicks ...well done to all those who stuck at it.

Another cruisy day at Hardies on IS86, 6.7CR, 34 Goldwing, a bit maxed out on the 6.7 for about 2Hrs, could'nt be bothered changing down, spent some time on W49,6.1CR, 27 Choco weed doing a bit of speed sailing then back to km's to finish the day.

Tim Stockton (3894km):

Nice day at melville.... as one would assume by the ~3kt melville pb :)

first time sailing the speed board over the sandbar (properly) and first time using it with a 23.5 elmo weed (usualy reserved for the slalom board). dam i wish i'd tried this combo before; the fin feels great upwind yet still very slipery and controllable in the chop :D hehheh cant wait to use it at hardies.

Spent a bit too much time on the slalom gear and 6.7, and didnt make the most of some gusts i got, so hopefully can push it closer to 40 next time at melville. (i am really regretting not having used the small board at melville during summer ><)

congrats to all crew for some great #'s today!

Was having a fairly crappy day at Melville until I managed to nail one good gust following Slowy over the sandbank and got 40.79 on the screen - woohoo! Manta 49, 2009 KA Koncept 5.8, and Lockwood / McDougall KA 23 sym fin.

Edit; results from GPSAR, found a poofteenth of a knot!

Very short sail at PP - unfortunately a work day. Borrowed an old home made slalom, KA Koncept 6.6, Falcon 28 - on the first return run board tripped and I went through the bottom of my sail.  I hope everyone else had a better day.  On the plus side I have sold all my old boards and ordered a CA50.

Thanks Hardie, but I don't reckon you can legitimately claim membership of the 40 knot club until it's over 500 metres, or at least 5 x 10, so the mission is not yet accomplished. There is still "work" to be done!!

Top numbers team ! well done Claude on the distance PB and everyone else on PB's. Congrats on the 40kn PB Ado. You have to be stoked with that. Great start to March. I managed to get out twice on the day (morning and afternoon) but haven't had a chance to post yet as had to pack up with family for annual Rotto week. Numbers nowhere near this good. sailed Peli both times which was too choppy in the arvo to make the most of some blistering wind at around 3pm. will post when back in town.

I have to give Craig Mann the credit for that actually!

Think I first heard that term 40 years ago,  "poofteenth of an inch" was the phrase at the time, so it's been around a while.

I have quizzed Craig on this and he confirms that it is indeed an old sailing term from his teenage years. There are a few others he mentioned but I don't know that their use would be considered acceptable in a public forum such as this; "the hair of a...and so on"

....ahhh those were the days. Long before Jacques ....ing Van Der Hout and his lot came along, let alone Lake Bloody George.

..when a 40 knot peak was a rare and fantastical achievement to be appluaded across all sides of this wide red land of ours.

When SRM reigned supreme with such depths of talent and conditions the likes of which had never been seen before in the GPSTC!

Oh yes, those really were the days...la de da
