A bit of fun at mellvile first off with JP 73 prowave and thefly 4.5 with a trashed wave fin. managed a 28.5kts and a few big jumps.

Then moved to Point walter with the rest of the crew. Mistakenly i left my 5.7 hellcat at home so instead i was on JP slalomIV 70L, 5.1 the fly and 28cm JP fin. Unfortunatly spent lots of time swimming but still had fun. In future i'll cart all my kit around with me!!!

Pretty gnarley out in the middle of the river at Lucky Bay but thats where the wind was.

Had a good session anyway. After I saw Toby and told Benny he needed a lift I sailed down to Pelli Point. The wind shadow was HUGE. Had to sail for the sandbar and walk in. 30knots in the middle of the river 5 knots at Pelli carpark if that!

Benny was pleased he didn't have to post his pathetic effortEmbarassedWink, thanks to Toby and Bertie. Also I ate all but one slice of the pizza on the way homeLaughing.(Benny had to drive)

Hi, i will tell you a tale of a 2 hr cruise.

So the 4 pm graph and look at the car window was 10-15 knots- you beauty.
wind speed

Flying start and all good then it started to go so Wrong !! I thought I would get it under control and then it just picked up more...many water starts later, almost got it going, dunked again and again,

Now its 25 knots the light fading and my hope of rescue- ZIP !
So at somewhere West of Applecross, north of the radio tower, south of Nedlands Yacht Club

map of sail dump
Yep, I dumped the sail and decided to paddle for shore, squalls increasing to white out, energy levels falling captain, boy it was a long way ( probably about 2km, too slow for the gps, then the walk to the car park!!)Cry

Thanks to Dan and Jet for the ride back to Nedlands from Apple cross.( Not as cross as the Mrs !)

Found the sail this morning, bout 300m from where I washed up- intact no rips and it secretly whispered to me "can we do that again?"

Hypersonic 105, Gaastra 5.5, Drake 340- so wrong !!

Epic journey Toby...glad you found the sail intact. A reminder of the dangers we face. My session at Wally World lasted less than 5 min before a big crash...luckily also all of my gear was unscathed...unlike me with 6 stitches in my head!

Hi Toby, I'm glad it all worked out ok in the end mate, makes life interesting Cool

Next time try derigging and rolling your sail up, not easy when getting hammered I know but better than a stinkboat running over it after you ditch it Wink

I had to derig once in 25+ & open water and lost half a broken mast and an extension. The worst part was paddling in because of the width of the board, felt like the non slip was rubbing my skin to the bone, luckily after a K a teabagger found me and towed me in the last K, so happy to see him.

I feel you pain Firiebob. My other thought in hindsight was to hold rig 90deg to the wind as I sat on board, bout shoulder height, - theory untested as yet... yep rubbed my feet off !!
