Macka Packa (8161km): Peli Point 7-8am - The worst kind of easterly Struggled to get my board down to the water it was blowing that hard - shortly after, struggling to water start in next to no wind. Good to see Mineral out. Peter had to contend with getting his formula board back in 25+ only to find that his van had been broken into and they took the key Let's hope it's an isolated event. Futura 93, OD 6.5, MFC32
Mineral (3706km): Quick early morning blast with Patrick. was real questionable, low breeze strength, rigged 7.7 and by the ti,me we hit the water I reckon I needed a 6.2. 3/4 way across river I could have done with a 5.2 Reset out haul for flat sail, came back with mostly tail walking. Waited five minutes, and breeze dropping, so reset 7.7 and went for second run. breeze dropped right off on way back. Had to call it a day, but as I left it started to fill in again.
Pointman (8480km): Woooohoooo!! Unexpectedly good sail in a pretty solid easterly. I reckon the gust were 22-23K, but also some big holes to dog through. First hitout on the new board, 2009 Futura 111, and well powered up on the 7.5 Koncept. Ran the stock 38 Drake fin, which felt a bit sketchy, so tried the 38 Leading Edge I had kicking around the back of the car. LE was an improvement, but I reckon this combo needs a good 40 fin to really light up. Had a bloody sensational sail. The Futura is an absolute sled. Powers upwind, eats the chop and gybes on a dime. Looking forward to a lot of TOW with this board this summer. Saw James and Snake out and about and a shout out to The Craw from the mobbers, good to meet you mate.

Snake (13281km): Woohoo alright! Great morning sail at peli. Really happy to get out so much this month so far Got out around 10 and the wind was great most of the time! Greg was out fanging along on his new toy, and James made a few guest appearances from pt walter too. Quite a few ppl down there today! Sonic 85, Ram 6.3, Goldwing 30
James Dinsmore (2794km): Fancied a big session in preparation for heading up north at the end of the week. JP Slalom V 112 NP RSS III 7.8 Launched from Point Walter and sailed up to Pelican Point to join the rest of the crew. Unfortunately I hit a rock on the way up and then spent the good part of an hour sailing at PP having serious spin out problems. On initial inspection the Deb SL2 40 fin seemed ok and I thought maybe it was some kind of uniquely bad sail and board set-up. Eventually I realised that the fin base had cracked and the fin was tilting significantly in the box every time I loaded it up. Had some good alphas during that time but couldn't sail in a straight line! Made it back to PW and changed to Tomcat 40 fin and had a decent sail for a further hour or so including another run back up to PP. Good turnout and sailing by all. Hope our director of tactics had luck house hunting because it was a good session to have missed! |
