Congratulations - Great speeds and increadible Nm Jacques. You guys are going to provide some stiff competition if you constantly pull those numbers out.  I will be interetsed to watch my already lowly ranking slide further down the table as all you dutchmen and Brits start racking up some numbers.

PS -where'd you guys sail and what gear did you use?

Wow great session!!  where were you guys sailing ?  France?

According to GPSSS, they were sailing at La Franqui, in the south of France.

I assume from the team name that these guys all have PBs over 46 knots. There aren't too many Aussies that make it into that club.

Wow, you guys are enthousiast, cool. Look forward to post frequently good numbers on this website. All our sessions are also shown on www.gps-speedsurfing.com. Looks like some of the kiwi teams are difficult to beat anyway. We need summer and places like sandy point aswell;-)

Here the track from 7-feb-2010

Fantastic first team post, congrats guys.

Just had a look on G.E. and wondered if this is where you sailed.

It's about 300m short of a NM, so if so, some of that run must have been in chop.

I don't think so Decrepit. They usually sail on the Med. You can't really tell from Google Earth, but the lie of the land there is very flat (mud flats/ swamp etc.) and there is pretty clean wind blowing straight offshore so you can basically sail in flat water straight alobg the beach. I haven't launched from La Franqui, but I have sailed at Gruissan just North of there. You could launch there and sail the 10 km to Port La Nouvelle in perfectly flat water without going more than 50 metres off the beach. I guess it's dangerous if you break something however it's also pretty shallow. It's where the Defi Wind is held.

The breeze is totally square at Gruissan so I'm guessing they are getting a decent broad reach on starboard at La Franqui.

Perhaps Jacques will post a Google Earth image of his tracks?

if you go to the GPSSS site using GPSar's direct upload feature it will give you a icon(normally next to the 5x readings) which gives you a virtual earth image of where you sailed, unfortunately JVDH has used a different method for inputing his data so kills that idea.Embarassed

I need to upgrade my gps results program. But if you go to the track of Hans Kreisel on GPS3 who sailed on the same day together with me you can see the google earth image with the positions were we made our runs.

The spot is simular to Gruissan but normally in La Franqui the angle is a little better to make better speed runs.

But Gruissan is better for Alpha racing.

Nice to read you guys are so into it and it will be nice competing with other addicts. Hope we can show u guys what we can do and give some more info about our gear by posting the link from GP3S everytime. Maybe also interesting for u guys are to look at the evaluated rankings from last year for more info  http://www.gps-speedsurfing.com/default.aspx?mnu=evaluatedrankings&Year=2009&Tab=0&Gender=0&WeightClass=0&AgeClass=0&SpeedType=0

I wasn't really happy this weekend lost my confidence after a hard crash early on wich messed up my ribs. Jacq was in his element the water wasn't flat only if u sailed really close to the beach what i didn't like with some shallow spots on the strip and incoming waves that were to big at times and when the tide was coming in the chop was coming from 3directions was really scary Wouter got of the water because of it

La Franqui is a great spot for speed. I sailed there in 2005 and it was awesome fun. Bit of a drive for you guys- what is it 12- hours?

Hans- have you changed your number to 85 yet?

Hey Slowie ,

11hours but soon it's going to be a lot shorter thanks to Jacq we only have to focus more on the lasergunLaughing

Officially not yet first they are going to look if i deserve a number under the 100 but i won't think that was a problem and the number is still free so 85 it will be

He has a faster van than yours?

Jacques van der Hout

Hey mister fastboat. Next week i'm getting the new T5 with 180 horse power. Don't think its smart to drive 180 km/h on the french highway and to get caught by a lasergun, this will be expensive. But with Hans his van we could only do 70 or 80 our way up on the pyeneeen and with this van we can just go 130 up the mountains, so this will be 1 or 2 hours quicker i guess.

And we made a hotelroom in the back of the van, so at least one of us was sleeping, bathing or watching tv while we were driving. Next time we put a nice woman in this room aswell;-). When you do it like this you can drive the whole night without traffic jams.

Went to south of French 3 times last 2 year and i don't know why nobody is speedsailing there. If you look to the spot record of La Franqui its only set by people outside French. Imagine that we dutch guys will have the top 5 of spotrecords in Sandy Point or the kiwi's at the Brace. Not logical. The tramontana blows at least once or twice a month, the whole year, a perfect speed place in my opinion with so many different flatwater spots. Even on the lake of Leucate we saw so many speedstrips.

Over here you would lose your license for 5 lifetimes if you got caught doing that speed. They would also confiscate your car for a month- seriously! Shame since we have some OK roads for doing 200+. But they imported all their senior police and police minister from the UK- where they were rejected for failing a basic IQ test and were brainwashed into the "speed kills" mantra over there. Now the speed limits are dropping, and the enforcement getting stronger (more cameras, and cops with lasers).

Does your van come with a heated spa in the back?

Well done guys! nice to start the GTC year with a high bar!

Talking of road trips. Back in '86 I drive from Manchester Uk to Biarritz France in one go, apart from the 2hr sleep on the Ferry from Dover to Calais.  We left home at 6pm on Friday and arrived in Biarritz at 8pm Saturday.  4 week Surfari was awesome, well worth the trip. My old 1970 Mini was n't quite as enthused as I was. The mini was maxxed out at 100kmh, especially with surboards a top.
