Pinaroo, Ezzy 6.0 and then 5.0, Starboard Acid 80, brand new Select Wave 25 and then Drake 23

Wind was a bit on the light side to start with, but then came in strongly so changed down to the 5.0.  Still overpowered on the 5 and called it quits, been so long since I've sailed in strong conditions that my sea-fitness just wasn't there!

Great to see Pointman out as well Laughing

Hope the boys had fun down south.

After 3 consecutive days of skunk on the Swan decided on a Pinnaroo mission today.

Got down there @ 11.15 and it was already cranking around 20-25K.

Rigged the 6.4 Koncept + 93 S-Type + 34 FO weedster.

Well powered on this combo.  It was crazy rough out there with groundswell from one direction and windswell from another turning the water into a washing machine.  Sailed for 40 minutes and I was stuffed. Embarassed

Had a spell and got back into it.  Breeze was building steadily and felt like 23-28ish on my second outing.  Got a nice jump off a sizey ramp, but landed overpowered and went over the handle bars.  Twisted my lower back which hurt a bit Cry

A couple more runs, but a few sharp twinges told me it was time to call it a day.

Ben joined me for the sesh, and even smoked past me at one point on his waveboard and 5.0 Ezzy.  Oh the shame Yell

Put the hammer down but the bugger pulled into the beach before I could set things straight.

Nice to get wet after 6 weeks without a sail. Cool

Headed to Mandurah to check out some new spots with Yoyo, but it was too up and down to get motivated. We noticed the wind had a lot of North in it, so headed to Yoyo's run. It was much better than expected! The run was quite broad which had me wishing for more wind a lot of the time, but overall one of the top sessions I've had down there despite the stinky mud and stingy water.

Melville Beach, WA, AU 85L Sonic, 4.7 Storm. drake 30 fin

First sail since last school holidays. I need at least 20 knots to get me sailing in the cold! I think I picked the best of the last four days. It was not as cold as I remember winter sailing to be, but frozen feet made me quit in the end.

Glad I could remember how to rig my small sail & actually sail it, fitness well down though.

I just love being able to sail parallel to the beach at Melville. Was just slogging on the waveboard but planing nicely after changing to the 85L Sonic. Only trouble was the boom kept slipping down (despite shim) making it really hard to keep on the MFP and stop the board bouncing around in the chop. Might be time for a new boom I think, or a fatter mast...

Beware - there are a few large and solid rafts of weed floating around. I was catapulted after hitting one!

That's better!Cool

Drove to mandurah and just before I got to the pie shop got a text from Alby telling me he was off to Glory Holes.

A quick classic steak for sustenance and it was on the road.

Wind wasn't howling on arrival although pepe, snides and funrider seemed to be going well.

Pulled the 6.3 out of the car and the wind kicked in. Switched to the 5.7, nonose and the new yoyo 23cm 40 degree fin.

Wind was up and down but built and had to go in for some weight. Disappointingly no flat water but some nice gusts.

Got a 35.6 on the display coming in to the car park and then a 36.1 heading in to the SW corner.Laughing

Happy with three 35+ runs through some fair chop! Needed one more good 10sec, never mind.

Big squall came in and I tried to launch in to the white out. Got slammed. Allowed the squall to pass and then went for a screamer in to the car park but lost the fin and after what felt like 3 seconds of sliding sideways a big crash left a crush in the rail of the boardCryand put an end to the session. Skinned the left shin through the wetsuit and the left side of the right ankle looks like a golf ball.

Wind came in even more as I derigged and saw Lockwood rig a 5.5! Never seen him sail something so small! The tide had dropped and he got the best conditions of the day until a big flash of lightning scared him from the water.Surprised

Had one go at a mile but a big hole in the last third dropped it down.

Fin felt slippery, thanks Yoyo!

Good to see a great team turn out for a winter day! Sorry you missed it Bender!

Hey Evets,

The 25 is a nice fin, plenty of power (which is why I bought it) but it was starting to tailwalk in the gusts.  So I changed down to the 23 fin for the 5.0 sail which felt better... the wind had picked up as well.  I find that matching fins to sails works well for me, although I really don't understand the physics of it all.

Your a tough one Windxtasy, Cool I thought yesterday, maybe today, then got involved sorting an electrical issue on my Van for the pending lap around the block in October. By the time I had it sorted, it was after 2pm and I chickened out. But the thought was thereLaughing

Well done guys, getting out, that seaweed at Pinnaroo looked shit-house, and harbouring the odd cobbler I betSurprised

Not tough, just keen for a long awaited sail!

I didn't get out until after 2PM either Mineral... it was 3.50 when I hit the water. Even got a few rays of sunshine here and there.

Next time I'll adjust my footstraps before I leave to make room for booties. Then I'll be right.

mark- that was a nice splash you made as you destroyed your board. Great effort in pretty tricky conditions- especially when that squall came through.

Fantastic speeds Lao Shi...pity about the crash.

You're a lot braver than I am doing those sorts of speeds in such testing conditions.....and you too Chris!

Welcome to the scoreboard Damien, and good speeds too!

Your one hour and alpha have pushed us further up the ladder.

Where were you sailing?

Welcome, Damien! Nice alpha!Cool Sorry, Chris you just lost alpha man status!

What GPS unit were you using? The letter X after your speed means that you have not selected either T for trackpoints (Garmin) or D for doppler (GT11 or 31).

Look forward to catching up.
