Obelix (1397km): ![]() Pelican Point, WA, AU - Bombora 135L + Arrows 6.8m - a very strong Easterly. First to formally thank the guy who advised me against fitting the 8.1m. The 6.8m was way too much anyway. I learnt that being lazy doesn't pay off. Next time I'll pack up 6 and 5.2 as well. Could have had some fun today. Anita showed up and disappeared never to return. Got me worried after a while, and I went for a drive down the shore, then I found a message on the mobile, that she is having a cup of coffee down in Bunbury.

Windxtasy (2881km): Pelican Point, WA, AU Storm 4.7, Sonic 85, Drake 30 Unintentional downwinder - Pelican Point to Melville. Everyone in the rigging area warned me "it's really windy out in the middle" so I rigged conservatively and had a cruisy ride until I came into the lee of Majestic Point. Had trouble getting back on the board as the wind was light and the mast foot not far enough forward. Decided to go to shore to adjust the mast foot. Still in the lee of the point I lost a lot of ground downwind even when up and sailing again. Realised I wasn't too far from the Melville carpark, it was going to be hard work to get back upwind to Peli point with that small sail and drake fin, and it was getting late, so I decided to take the easy option, sail to Melville and catch a lift back to Peli. Good thing an aquapack is big enough for a GPS and a mobile phone! Don't know how I got a reading for an alpha when I didn't do a single turn!
lao shi (27489km): ![]() Survival sail at Wallyworld boat ramp. Probably the worst washing machine water I have ever sailed at that part of the river. Great sphincter clenching runs back in to the shore and round Pt Resolution. Shows how much the confidence has increased that I was out searching for bear aways. Really enjoyed pushing it. Have to again praise the sonic 100 / goldwing 32 combo. Gusting 30 knots and only a couple of over the handlebars when trying to run throught he troughs of the breaking waves on the sand bar. Most were out on wave gear. The strongest easterly I have ever sailed. 32 knots in those conditions felt faaaasssst! Chad had a couple of gos on his 4.7 and freestyle board and called it quits. Wog was having a go on wave gear and Nilss you were right a 5.7 would have been a good idea! Respect to Jesper sailing up to the freeway. Sailing up would have been ok but going that far downwind in those conditions takes a lot of skill! Warp 6.3, sonic 100, goldwing 32. 23-30 knots at time of peak speed.
Birdman (1819km): ![]() Mistral Screamer, NP 6.5, Albany. Breeze E 15-18knts. Excellent flatwater sailing. Just needed another 5 knots to crack some speed PBs. |
