5090 days ago 2 categories Shark Bay w Crasher, did the 4 hr road trip from where i am, Got there, did 2 hrs of searching for a spot as low tide and all spots we had googled were too shallow (What google doesnt tell you). Anyway made a decision, and first mistake was to decide to rig closer to where we were gonna launch. With gear fully rigged 5.9 TR-6 Tabou Manta 54cm Sam Spec 23.5cm, walked thru 150mtetres of knee deep mud, was buggered before I started. 10 mts stop puffed, 15 metres gassed................ Anyway finally got onto water and wind was very solid 22 to 25kts (This is where the good winds are in WA) Probably gusts to high 20's when out there. There seemed to be a channel w shallow sand bar that we aimed for and pretty good but had to sail over untested waters in very shallow water if ya wanted long runs. Crasher trashed a panel in his brand new TR-6 6.3 on his 3 rd run so that was the end of his speeds, he's had a coupla 36's at that stage (while I was doing 34's), he's always 2 kts faster than me and I was faster than him in the end so, he tried a couple of more runs and was only doing 33's and 34's while I started doing 36's we were both fucked wind getting stronger close to 30 knots by the end and had to sail down wind to get back, prety hairy scary stuff.
Place has heaps of potential, someone without fear woulda done 40kts yesterday easy, but you are sailing over very shallow water, a long way from anywhere,......... So is it worth the trip?? For most I'd say "NO", you'll go faster at Point walter. Times to go would be when its gonna be 15 kts in Perth and 30kts at shark bay, then yeh might be worth it if ya can?? (Maybe at end of month when its ya old chanvce for glory??)
