Another great night at Peyriac :) our favourite overnight camping spot on the coast!!! Arrange to met Pete on the beach at Gruissan .We manage the rock chicane again we find Pete already there !!! The beach looks like a moonscape where the strong winds of the last couple of days have blown the sand off a lot of the beach and made small dunes near the water’s edge!!!! So over a cuppa we decide on rig choice and with winds gusting to nearly 30 mph but supposed to drop by midday, Pete rigged his Tushingham 5.8 and I went for my crispy old Tushingham x-15 6.4 – having to tap another hole in the top panel first!!!!

As from previous experience getting over 30 knots seems hard for me with the wind being so’oooooooooooo square so we were trying for a good hour and lots of miles :) Pete was flying with his 5.8 and falcon 80 and I was having great fun too mainly sailing from the sandy bank just down the beach to where the Etang comes into the sea where the kiters play !!! I was struggling abit staying upwind in the flat water near the beach as my sail was too full but I did manage to make it tp Port-la-Nouvelle and it was fantastic going full tilt in the small swell for 5/6 mile reaches :) We came in after about an hour and a half with Pete hoping for a mid 20’s hour and a 32 max :) I didn’t have any idea as I had my gps tucked down my life jacket but had down 32 n/miles.

So after recharging my batteries with lunch we set off again and had a great afternoon adding nearly another 50 n/m :) even though the wind was easing off with holes in places but you could manage to keep the board going by bearing off a little.

So my best day ever at Gruissan, best max and average a disappointing hour but must improve my gybing and try to stick to the windiest area !!!

Finally called it a day when I reached the 80 n/mile mark at five :) just in time to wave Pete off as he started his long trip home :( We chuck all the gear in the van and head inland to Lac du Salagou, park up right by the lake, watch a kitesurfer sail past, rinse the sand from my wetsuit and go for a swim in the warm shallow lac with Mag as the sun sets over the mountains – a top spot!!!

Love this place !! ( Grussan France)  Ian R you would get some records here mate - get on the ferry

I must learn to Jibe the Falcon 80 better but good day -- Tried hard for a good hour -got a PB so fairly happy with that but dropped 3 jibes (harness hooked in as i flipped ) and slow out of the turns -- also could not do 5+ mile runs as i hoped as weed further down and wind shadows -- so used one an half mile runs .

I will try again later in the year -I know i could do better one hour there.  I was hopeing to get some good distance but the wind dropped later and i was bit

Knackerd and bashed about from 2 big crashes at La Fanqui the day before--  but good start to July - In font of them Bloody Pirates for a little while ??

I know they will beat it but at least weve made them try hard this month !! Wink

Your reports are getting me tempted for a trip there. Good distance Stephen!

I tell you what its a refreshing change to see people going for all disciplines and making an all round effort to get your team on top. I really do wish we had you in our team (not trying to poach!). But nice to see you going for it and having fun at the same time, well done and great effort can't wait to sail with you again! I met El squirrel at southend but not sure about you Pete? Anyway hope some of The Pirates take note of this effort! Well done again!!!

Thanks mark for them kind words -- but you got the best speedies in the uk in your team - we need  to poach a couple or them to even things up a bit!!

I dont think we have sailed together yet ? Ive met  ssome of your team at Southend and Weymouth speed week - I could do with some advice from them as my top speeds are rubbish -- my sails never rig with a good 'belly' this must be a mast problem i recon --im useing a north 75% mast and NO outhaul

Interesting Pete, I was just contemplating a North 75% to go with a Simmer 7m, and you have a simmer dont you?

I Rig my6.3 simmer with a severne bueline and the belly is huge, at first it was really stiff and didnt rotate but after a few sessions it is much better. I rig my x15s with tush 100% from the same year - 2009. They look a little flat to be honest, but if I let off a bit of downhaul they do fill out a lot, problem with this though is they dont dump the gusts as well then.

Job to know wot to get --as i have very little cash ! i was thinking of a 100 tush but youve worried me now  - i use the 75 north on my 6.3 simmer

ok ish but not much belly

What will you be rigging the 100tush with? I have a spare one that I was going to trade in.....was only offered £120 so didnt bother.

I seem to be getting competitive speeds (for my learners ability) with the x15 7m and 100tush so it is rigging well but I would suspect it wouldnt work with the simmers as they are too much flex top, which means a stiffer bottom and rotation problems with simmer - north. It would work with NP though which have a similar bend curve I believe.

IF you have a 100% tushingam mast 430 i will have it please -- to use on my 5.8 x15
