Wallyworld (via Safety Bay!)

Went down to the Beaver first but it was crazy windy (gusting to 45K) and too westerly, meaning no speed run to speak of.  Ado and Norts braved it briefly, but gave it the thumbs down, so I followed Slowy back up north to Wallyworld.

WW was brutally gusty, from dogging along to getting smashed and back again in the space of 10m, so it was very physical sailing.

I managed a few good runs on my 90 XFire + 6.6 TR7 + 28 weedster combo, but they were hard-earned.

Came in to yarn to JJ for a while, checked the numbers and realised I needed one more good run for a decent average (I was counting a 30K 10-sec at that stage).

Went back out and scored a screamer heading down to the jetty in a 30K gust.  That got me my peak speed and 35.95 10 second to nicely round out the average.  Headed back upwind for another crack, but got absolutely smashed in a sustained 35K gust.  I was crazy overpowered on the 6.6 and it took me a few attempts to water start and get going again.

Decided I'd had enough after that and came in.  The wind seemed to have steadied around 25-30K, with stronger gusts, and I seriously considered changing down to the 5.8, but really couldn't be assed, as it was so freakin gusty even the 5.8 would've been hard yards.

Not the epic Safety Bay session I was hoping for when I blagged a day off work this morning, but still a fun sesh

wow that was a tad windy

got down to saftey bay to find it very fresh but looking like potential for some speed

so i was surprised to see no speed sailors out 

the reasoning is that no one in wa has 4m speed sails any more 

got on the water and managed to sail back and forth a couple of times stupidly over powered before the wind kicked back in and at that moment even the guys on 3.5's were standing around trying to hang onto their gear as a sustained 40 knots + appeared for about 15 minutes 

noticed that my 5 had got a decent hole in one of the top panels thanks to all the flapping it did

so out with the duct tape and scissors 

got back on the water to find that it had dropped significantly to a pretty solid 30 to 35 knots, got one or two bear aways in the lulls when i was only very overpowered, but very quickly ran out of room

all up a pretty average sesh but was a bit of fun to be that over done

i'm well and truly knackered now

unbelievable lao

i was once again picking up the scraps

Quick wallyworld session after work. Some nuking gusts coming through, too hard to control at times. The new fin did well, a rock of stability while everything else was out of control. Unfortunately I grazed one of the the PW rocks on the way in so have some sanding to do.

Good to catch up with Mark, Chris, Steve, Peter and Dave. Well done on some great numbers in difficult conditions guys.

Wallyworld

Almost got blown over at the W word today and was a bit anxious as I had relied on the forecast and only packed slalom gear!

Thought about a detour home but was keen to see what the 90 could do.

When I arrived the Slow one came in saying he was getting worked on his 6.4 and all I had in the car was a 6.3 but after yesterday's survival mission I had great faith in the set up and decided to go for it!

Put 5kg weight in the jacket, downhaul a couple of cm over spec and away we went.

Have I mentioned this board ROCKS!? I didn't think I would find a board I liked more than the old Sonic 100 but this thing is so versatile and absolutely rock solid through the nasty stuff.

First decent run was a 36 then hooked in to a sweet slingshot for a 38.29 to sneak past the Sonic's Wallyworld best and then a huge gust as I exited the Island coming back toward the car park saw a 40 display. Only the 4th session where I have achieved this and my 2nd fastest 2sec ever.

On a 60cm wide board with a 32cm fin! I love the Goldwing! Sorry if I am gushing! Also again amazed by the range of the Loft Blade handling gusts in to the 30s. Moral of the story is keep experimenting with your kit and don't worry if you have not got a speed board as you can still go fast.

Some brutal bullets out there today and was lifted clear out of the water at one point flying sideways through the air. Probably called it a bit early but was starting to get a bit cold and after popping my shoulder out yesterday decided to err on the side of caution!

Realspeeded out of the 40.19 display but still stoked!

Great to see Chris P having some smoking runs and good to have Snides, Slowy and 25 to share the stoke with.
